OK so i'm really disappointed with the way dr. phil handled the mother and grandmother of that girl. Giving them 6 months of free organic groceries, a gym membership and a nutritionist is not fixing the problem if you ask me. I think he should have told her HOW she (and anyone watching who is on a fixed income) can fix the situation. You don't NEED a gym membership to exercise (many wont even take 11 yr olds), they can walk, run, exercise at home...you don't need some fancy organic grocery store replacing your fast food for free (though he did mention this briefly), You need to work at this yourself..and even he pointed this out. It's a 'programming change' in the way you think. I'm really curious to see the followup on that one if there is one.
I think that anyone that was in a similar situation who was looking for advice or tips? really got nothing, besides 'maybe i should write to dr. phil and maybe I'll be chosen for the free stuff'.
I do agree the 1000 lb guy did need some serious addiction counselling, not just a 'change in lifestyle'. But as for the little girls family, i think they copped out on the whole 'we can't afford to eat well' aspect, and Dr. Phil just went with it.
I found the whole thing very sad. If you go on Dr. Phil's message board, the 1000 lb man is writing on it. He seems very intelligent.
It breaks my heart.
