  • What Happened??

    Been lurking for awhile...First post.

    I have been on Atkins for 5 weeks...........The first 4 was extended induction...Dropped 18 pounds and the Keto Sticks were plum colored.
    Last Saturday I slipped a little at a family BBQ .... Had a couple slices of Carrot cake and a soda......Cheats happen (the first one for me) and I just carried on...The following Monday I had gained 5 pounds...First off how does a piece of cake and soda add up to 5 pounds?????
    I was still in ketosis according to the Keto stick....Since Monday the stick has got lighter and lighter..as if I am comming out of ketosis.....The last 3 days I have had ZERO carbs and cant darken up that darn stick...What is going on with me?
    I am not discouraged ....Just curious

    Hey Jeff,
    How about posting a typical day's menu for the experts here to check over? It might help. And hey, just get over that cheat and move on. I would guess, though I'm not an expert, that the extra 5 lbs is stored water that your body kept because of the carbs. Following strict induction should get rid of that right away. And, remember, zero carbs is not the answer. You really need to eat some veggies and get those good carbs in for this to work.

    Calling it GOAL at this point. I'm happy with where I am now and hope to stay there, or maybe even take it down a little more.

      Also, many here will tell you not to look at the scale. It lies anyway. (Wish I could take that advice, lol). I read many times on here, too, that those sticks only work for one type of ketones, not all of them. I imagine after awhile, they aren't worth the price of admission. You are right to carry on. See, that cake and the soda were loaded with sugar. I also read that for every time we cheat like this, we set ourselves back. Try doing 5-7 days of strict induction (getting those good carbs) and I bet you're back on track to losing the weight.
