My legs are achy today and I just remembered last time I did Atkins I needed to take Potassium. Does it matter if you take the Potassium pill or the Potassium in the salt shaker.
you really need to know if you are deficient in potassium as too much is just as bad for you as too little. You can use the reports section of fitday.com to see if your foods are deficient or not.
I needed 3 OTC potassium pills prescribed by my doc based on my blood levels when I did extended induction but I don't need any now that I'm in maintenance.
No Betty it's safe for both. Potassium is a deficiency that many are walking around with right now. Potassium is to the soft tissues of the body as calcium is to the bones. Postassium is the mineral of youthfulness...an artery softener keeping the arteries flexible. Apples contain a rich form of potassium. One of the reasons ACV is so good for you. I get my potassium through my foods now that I am on maintenance. You can't always assume though that you are getting your vits and minerals through foods if your veggie/fruit intake is not colorful, varietal and at least 5-7 servings a day (maintenance of course)

If your calves or other muscles cramp a lot, is that a sure sign of potassium deficiency? Because my hands, calves, toes, and thighs can all get very painful cramps. I probably don't get a lot of potassium in my diet.

cramps can be caused by many things potassuim shortage is one of them. Check your fitday and see if you are potassium deficient.
Actually if you select your induction foods carefully you will not be deficient. pork and beef are a very rich source of potassium even higher then those PR campaigned banana potassium levels.
Great article Sarah. Something I've read up on lately. You know all of these droopy eye lid surgeries that are so popular??? They are calling it potassium deficiency.
