  • Smoking and weightloss?

I realize the health risks assoiated with smoking and that I should quit. Right now I smoke about a half a pack a day and I was wondering if I was to quit would it stall my weightloss?

    Does smoking actually inhibit ketosis?

That's a GREAT question. I smoke and it has never inhibited weight loss or ketosis for me. I smoke about the same as you, so I'd LOVE to hear everyone else's opinion.

Matt. Quitting smoking definitely changes your metabolism. I gave it a good shot in October until a whole lot of things happened in my life. And yes, I gained some weight back. It was actually freaking me out to a point. With everything else going on at the time I couldn't handle the weight I was regaining as well. I KNOW smoking is bad, is a horrible disgusting habit. I am going to quit, I know I HAVE to. I have the patches all lined up again. Just have to get the motivation again. I have seen people on here that have quit and were able to maintain the weight loss, so I am sure it can be done. Let me know how you make out!!

OOps. The question was about ketosis. Sorry. I have no problem being in ketosis and smoking. Smoking increases your metabolism, is what I was meaning to get across. So things will change in that area if you quit.

                Re: Smoking and weightloss?

actually smoking has no effect on ketosis. nicatine is a CNS stimulant and can effect energy expenditure but this effect is very small and will return to a normal level quickly after you quit.
Smoking is also a hunger feeling supressant and why they were prescribed in the 50s for weight loss grrrrrrrrrrr.

cigarettes are a diuretic so when you quit you have a rebound fluid increase unless you replace your cancer stick to mouth habit with a food to mouth habit you will not gain fat mass.

Another thing to know is the physical chems from the cigs are out of yor system in 2-3 days and then it is all mental just as it was in induction with the carbs and hey you conquored them didn't you?

                    Re: Smoking and weightloss?

It was about a year I think. I quit and started so many times. I finally looked like such a hypocrit! Preaching healthy eating and then closet smoking.......how sick is that? Then I went to smoking when I drank.....now I can't even drink.

I started thinking to myslef with every puff of the smoke.....I am poisoning my body! The more than 3000 chemicals....I might as well be on margarine and aspartame.....

I'm really on a purity roll now. This nutrition class I'm taking really is a great visual of your insides!

I wish they would quit making the damn things!

hmmmmm Kraft and Phillip Morris=same company=destined to destroy the body for a profit

                              Good for you.

if you were a heavy smoker get something you can fidgit with in your figners when you feel the urge.

I saw a great method practiced by a lady. she bought wooden matches and when she wanted a cig she lit one, held it in her fingers, took several deep breaths, held her breath and then used that air coming out to blow out the match, ground the smoking stick in an ash tray and said will I've had my smoke for now.
