  • Gevalia Mocha coffee...Question

Alright, I am not a coffee drinker but after a night of sore throat and coughing I made a pot this morning. All I had was the Gevalia Mocha that someone gave us for Christmas. I checked the label - no sugar - and drank about 3 mugs.

When I went to put the extra into an airtight container, I saw something granular that looked suspiciously like sugar. The ingredients listed naturally decaf. beans, potassium carbonate and artificial flavor.

Did I screw up and if so, how do I not do that again without "sugar" listed as an ingredient? Google was no help but what else coule the granules be? There are just a few scattered throughout but I CAN see them....Thanks!

Can you call gevalia or look on their website? I'm guessing the specks were the "natural flavor". Unless it was a cappucino mix (and I know Gevalia coffee is not), I don't see why it would have sugar.

Website was less than helpful but you are right - I think I will call. I'll post back here after I (hopefully) find out!

Okay...Customer service was very nice and as helpful as they could be. Tell me what you think:

        6 oz serving lists 0 carbs/ 0 calories/ trace of fat/ 150 mg potassium

It doesn't seem like the granules are sugar does it? Or if they are, I am okay counting it as normal coffee carbs..right?

It sure doesn't look like there was sugar in it, but you might want to count each cup as a carb since coffee generally has 1 carb per 6 ounces.

I'm betting that what you're seeing is the potassium carbonate, not sugar granules. But you do need to count the coffee carbs, and beware of the dehydration caused by drinking three cups.

I am relieved! I did count 3 carbs (plus carbs from cream) and they were well worththe relief from my sore throat!

Mocha coffee and heavy cream was way better than any nasty ol' throat spray/lozenge I have ever tried!
