  • Another Ketosis Question

This is my second time around on Atkins (stopped for Pregnancy) and I am no stranger to DANDR or the success you can achieve with this WOL. However, I want to run this by the "expert panel" at .....

I am not experiencing the visible signs of ketosis that are generally exhibited during this phase of Atkins. I am on extended induction but have no funny breath, no strong urine, etc. The results are coming so really I am just curious about this since I ran the whole gamut of signs last time around. Thanks in advance!

    Re: Another Ketosis Question

Some people don't like to use them, but if I want to verify that I am in ketosis, I use the keto sticks. When I'm in ketosis they do change color and verify that I am in ketosis. I don't get the funny breath so it's hard for me to gauge by that.....

I have never done the sticks so I don't know much about them.

I forgot to mention that I do have the reduced hunger.

I suppose my only worry is that I am losing due to the lowered calories/excercise and that I will go in to the Dr. all excited to see my astonishingly improved cholesterol level only to see that I am one big artery clog!

        Re: Another Ketosis Question

I can relate it is pretty hard to tell if you are on it or not... I mean I do not even really know what they really mean by strong urine. I simply follow the rules and trust that I am in ketosis.....I usually look at my weight loss and my shrinking body as supporting evidence of that fact. I know that this is not the best advice or probably the right thing to do, but it works for me so I thought I would mention it. Good luck to you!

Since you are experiencing appetite suppression, I'd say that was a sign of ketosis. You don't have to have EVERY symptom to be in ketosis. And every time is different. Some people like the strips, but IMO, they are a waste of money. They don't work for everyone and can frustrate if they aren't showing the expected result.

I get my ketostix at Walmart, near the pharmacy/diabetics supplies, costs around $6.50 for 50 strips. They are way more expensive in a regular drug stores. I don't use them every day but it is still a good motivator when you're in the pink.

                Re: Another Ketosis Question

asm long as you are eating correctly on induction you are in ketosis no doubt about it. Ketones exist in 3 forms in the body and only one is the taste, one the breath and urine smell and one on the stix so if you are burning them up with your exercise and not over eating your Atkins you might not have any to taste.
