  • A Problem with Salads

It seems that every time I eat a salad as a meal (no matter what is in it), I get this feeling of a heavy rock in the pit of my stomach and I'm backed up to my neck. It's very uncomfortable. I don't have any bathroom problems. I'm drinking my water and exercising. I don't have any food allergies. This does not happen with any other foods. I'm assuming it's something with the lettuce (apparently all kinds of lettuce) that my body really doesn't care for.

Anyone else get this feeling or have any words of advice? Would it be ok for me to stay away from salads altogether?

Cut down on eating the lettuce and see if that helps. I put very little lettuce in my salads because I don't care much for it and the mix of other veggies makes it more interesting.

I see lettuce as crunchy water so I don't understand this feeling at all. Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't know what advice to tell you Kate. Hope you can find some kind of remedy or solution for it. Maybe try what Moochie suggested? Hope it works!

have you washed your lettuce very carefully? if it was watered with contaminated watercontaining the H pylori SP? bacteria which cause over 90% of all ulcers, you could be getting some bacteria on the lettuce and your tummy isn't liking it. Since that bacteria doesn't effect the rest of the digestive tract you wouldn't get bathroom effects from it.

I think I wash it carefully, but I'll be even more so in the future. Thanks!

so not eatting every type of letuce makes this go away but eating any type of lettuce causes this?

if so do youuse your salad dressing on other foods besides the lettuce to see if it is that?

Maybe you should follow the other members suggestions and cut down on the salad to see what happens.

Wow, that's too bad. Even though lettuce might not be the best veggie nutritionally, I so love my salads. Hope you get it all figured out.

What kind of vegetables are you eating in your salad? Do the non-lettuce vegetables on the "Salad" list cause this problem as well? If they don't, then there's really no reason why you have to eat lettuce. Eat the other salad veggies. You'll get more nutrients and depending on the veggie, more fiber.

I can have everything by itself but when it's all mxed into the salad is when I seem to have this problem, even the lettuce. I use lettuce as my "bread" in my rollups and have no trouble at all, but once it's in the salad it's like something evil happens to it. I'm going to cut back on the salad mixture. I can have those veggies with being in salad form. I guess I'm just weird. lol

                          Re: A Problem with Salads

you have some combination that your tummy doesn't like since you canhave letuce alone try letuce and one other veggie mixed for a few days then add another till you know what combination total gives it to you then remove the lettuce and see if it goes away. if it does then you know that lettuce with those veggies does you in.

it may take weeks but you will find it. take great notes figuring out celery triggered cravings in me too me weeks but avoiding it now has saved me numerous times.
