  • Question from newbie - please read! :)

I'm 5'4 and about 160 lbs. Is it possible to lose about 20 pounds in a month on an induction diet of about 1200 calories?
    Please help, need motivation!

You can conceivably lose 20 lbs in a month, but it's not a calorie controlled diet, which makes it easier. People often lose 7-10 pounds during a 2 week induction if they do it correctly and exercise, so 20 is not impossible.

Not likely, to be honest. If you are *only* 160lbs then you are not obese. Obese people can lose 20lbs in the first month because in order to SUSTAIN their weight (say you were 260lbs instead of 160lbs) they have to eat a lot more calories every day to stay the same.

Your caloric needs are probably only in the 1500 calories per day range, even for being 160lbs. if you eat 1200 cals, and run for 1 hour (500cals) you can conceivably be on an 800 cal deficit per day. That translate to about 1.5lbs per week.

With the atkins water loss you'll lose about 10lbs tops in the first month. That is not bad. But you have to run every day.

        Good luck.

I lost 11 kg (24.5 lbs) on Induction, BUT - I was 289 lbs to start. You can bank on losing about 10% of what you want to lose if you do a strict Induction and exercise. Just remember the word 'diet' itself means 'a way of life'. This is not a quick fix fad diet, you have to commit to itfor the future too.
