I'm going on a long car trip tomorrow with a really bad back, so the doctor prescribed a round of methyprednisone (Medrol DosPak). I hate to do any drugs, especially when it comes to hormones!!! But the trip is almost 11 hours according to MapQuest, and I sometimes have to stop and stretch on my morning commute, which is 1 hour. I started the stuff yesterday so I'm feeling pretty good today! Aside from my permanent hot flash and the weight I know I will pick up from it.
It will taper off until Tuesday, after the return trip on Monday.
Does anyone know what cravings issues or ketosis mess-ups I will have from this? I'd like to take a "break" from Atkins but I know I won't feel my best (to say the least) and I have a Tuesday work deadline for an important project that I need the full use of my brain for. Not to mention that I gain like gangbusters even when I cheat for a few days.
And the fact that I tend to just be off plan "one more day" (for weeks at a time) for various excuses. So I don't trust myself to go off.
If I reduce my caffeine intake help with the whole hormone thing? I won't have to wake up early so I probably could take these four days to reduce it. Will that leave me open to migraine? Or will the cortisone help/hurt that?
I'm starting to be sorry I agreed to go on this trip, but it's my MIL's birthday and it's sort of a family reunion thing, which is important for DH who didn't want to leave me behind. I'm determined to enjoy this trip even though I have to bring work to do.
Any one who has input on this, please tell me what you know. I haven't had this prescription for quite some time, and never on this WOE. I'm trying to say "no" to drugs and have done quite well in the past few months.
