  • Question about Fiber and Fitday

    On my fitday, it says I have had 11 carbs, and 3 fiber. Do we take the fiber out of carb grams?? Is my carb count 11 or 8?? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

    I also had a question on broccolli. I ate a cup of it with my lunch and fitday said that was 5 carbs!!! Is that true?? Its on the induction allowed list, but that seems high to me.

    there are several higher carb in your induction focused brain veggies on the 1 cup list but they are low glycemic and full of beneficial phytonutrients that help lose weight like pumpkin too. funny thing about broccolli if you look you will see it has more proteins then carbs.

    We count net carbs on Atkins because Dr Atkins knew by law fiber enters the mouth and exits the rear without being metabolized so all the potential energy in those fibers never gets used by humans. So take your toital and subtract the fiber. if you look at the bottom of your foods lists you will see under the carbs column fitday has already done this for you.

      Fitday calculates the total carbohydrate in one column, and the fiber in another. Take your total carbohydrate and subtract the fiber.

      Don't be afraid of the total carbohydrates for 1 cup of frozen broccoli (cooked) is Total Carbohydrate 7.89g Dietary Fiber 4.52g

      When you subtract the fiber, you get 3.37 NET carbohydrates.

      Now, if you eat two cups of salad vegetables (this is just for instance)
      1 cup lettuce (1.15 total - .77 fiber = .3
      2 wedges tomato (1/2 medium tomato) (2.88 total - .682 fiber = 2.19
      4 slices cucumber (.7 total - .196 fiber = .504)
      .25 cup mushroom (.714 total - .21 fiber = .5)

      Thats a whopping total of 6.952 carbohydrates for all of your induction vegetables for the day!!!

      Keep eating that broccoli, and those salad veggies. This is a low-carb diet, not a NO carb diet.

        CORRECTION:
        Thats a whopping total of 6.952 NET carbohydrates for all of your induction vegetables for the day!!!

        You should stay under 20 NET carbohydrates for the day. Remember, eggs, cheese, salad dressing etc. all have carbohydrate too that must be added in, but You'll be fine!

          Carbs aren't bad for you in amounts your body specifically needs. As you do Atkins, you'll find the correct amount of carbs your body needs. So don't be scared of them, especially the good carbs like vegetables.

            Thanks everyone!! I just want to do my induction the right way, but I will try to keep carbs from totally freaking me out!!! I am on day #5 and no cheating!!! I don't think I have every stuck to a WOE this long without cheating (unless you count eating all the junk food I could get my hand on as a WOE!). Thanks for all the help and advice, there is no way I could be doing this good without ADBB!!!

              can you believe after eating all that high carb food you are freaking out over a 5 carb veggie? see that is what I mean about getting into the induction mindset. 5 is too many when 6 days ago 5 wasn't even anything to bat an eye over.

                Thanks everyone!! I never even thought about carb counts before!!! I look and read the label on EVERYTHING now!!! Thanks for all the support!!!
