  • Pumpkin question....

I have one small fresh one left.. but being in a rush.. I tried again...

I bought plain pumpkin.. I believe Libby's is the only brand in the store here...

but last time I trashed about 4 cans because it had grit or something gritty in it...

today I bought 2 more cans.. and same thing...

so.. I've wasted eggs, splenda, creme cheese.. time..etc..

I should have tested the canned pumpkin first!!

has anybody else found this in canned pumpkin?

Wow....no, I have never had a problem...I've made pumpkin pies several times with Libby's and never noticed a texture issue. Are you sure it's the pumpkin? I would email Libby's or contact them somehow and tell them if it is definitely the pumpkin. Maybe your store got a bad shipment or something.

        Re: Pumpkin question....

It's just something I made up... I first noticed it when I was just putting some splenda in pumpkin and heating in a baking dish....

today the only thing added to the pumpkin was creme cheese, vanilla, eggs and heavy creme...

        it's the pumpkin...

it's not BAD... but just once in a while... it's like grit crunches in my teeth...

it's not a bad batch at the grocery store I dont' think.. because it's been months since I bought the first batch... since I've been 'off the wagon' for a while....

oh well.. I guess it's just me

          Oh that's too bad!

I've had a little 'grit', but because of clove/cinnamon/nutmeg that might not be ground as well as it should be...but neve a problem with the Libby's pumpkin.

if I'd HAD cinnamon and such in there.. .that's what I would have thought... but I haven't put anything like that in at all...

like i said.. at first I was just heating with splenda and butter...

that's when I noticed it most.......

Your not crazy, it's happened to me with both Libby and my store brand. It's like chewing on dirt!! I gave up on canned pumpkin because of this reason... Sad too cause I really like it!

Make sure you contact Libby's and make them aware that you wont be buying their product any more and the reasons why so thye can check their quality control!

whew... I'm glad I wasn't just dreaming the whole thing....

as for writing the company... i've pretty much given up on that....

once I bought some ready to cook greens... you could even microwave them in the bag... I

I just dumped them in the bowl and microwaved... I added the salt and butter.... nuked 'em.. sat down to eat.... first bite was awesome.. then I saw something reddish... thinking it was just a 'bad leaf' ... I moved it... it was a grasshopper... over an inch long.... I threw up...

when I trashed it... there was ANOTHER grasshopper...

when I wrote the company.. the reply pretty much said 'we're sorry, but it happens'

I've never bought or eaten those greens again..

Are you sure it's dirt in the pumpkin or is it the fibers? Sometimes the pumpkin puree is a tiny bit fibrous---which is why I always used to puree it again in the blender whenever I made pumpkin pie.

                          Re: Pumpkin question....

I've cooked 6 fresh pumpkins this winter.... no grit... (the last one is in the oven now... I'm still craving pumpkin.. )

it's not fibers.... (unless it's fiberglass.. lol)

it's crunchy... an awful unexpected crunch in your teeth.....

maybe the crunch that some think is spice is actually the gritty stuff I'm talking about..
