  • How long can I stay on induction?

So I am fairly new to this board. I have been doing the Atkins diet since mid-October of last year and have lost 25 pounds (even with my like 2 weeks of guilt over Christmas). It's been about 4 monthes and I'm a little worried about staying at the induction phase, but I would really like to...at least until the end of the summer when I move on to phase 2.

I was just wondering how long others have stayed on induction. I don't find it hard to do, that's not the problem. I'm just worried about only eating these limited foods for so long. I eat mostly salad and chicken during the day, red meat about once a week and eggs about twice a week. I do eat a lot of cheese however. Any advice?

    Thanks!

Re: How long can I stay on induction?

After the first two weeks, you can move on. A lot of people stay on induction until they have 20-30 pounds left to lose, since those should and will come off much slower than the rest. Dr. Atkins recommended answering these 4 questions when deciding to move on to OWL.

    Chapter 13 DANDR:
    1. Are you bored with induction?
    2. How much weight do you have left to lose?
    3. How metabolically resistant are you to weight loss?
    4. Are you willing to slow down the rate of weight loss in exchange for more food choices?

If you are comfortable staying in this phase, and you still have a lot of weight to lose, you can do induction safely for 6 months or more. If you do not have much weight left to lose it is advisable for you to advance to OWL so you can cycle through all of the phases of the program. It's really up to you.

Usually by the time you only have 20 pounds or so left to lose, you should move to OWL to give yourself plenty of time to get through the other 2 phases in which you will continue to lose weigh slowly, giving yourself a better chance to keep off all you take off and be ready for Maintenance.

    Hope that helps!

Re: How long can I stay on induction?

Thank you SO much. I feel much better about staying on induction for longer now. I am not bored with induction and have a very slow metabolism. I am at 175 and I would like to get to 150 before moving on. Hopefully by the end of the summer I can reach that weight goal and start OWL. I just wanted someone else opinion on actually staying on induction for 6+ monthes before moving on.

Also, as a side note, I just began a pilates class and I love it. If anyone has been thinking about giving it a try you will really be pleased with the effect it has on your weight lose.

      Thanks for the help!
