We had that post here a while back about the Shirataki noodles. I was wondering if anyone ever did order the from the Konjac site??

    Well, I did....

I ordered the 10 pack sampler. I got it in the mail just yesterday and had to try some for dinner. I opened a pack of the Ditalini and mixed it with some Chinese Five spice chicken and red peppers recipe that I make.

It was..... interesting.... It really didnt have a taste to it. Reminded me of a tofu taste really. The only issue I had with it was the texture. It was sort of squishy. Bouncy even. Without scaring anyone away, It reminded me of eating Calimari (squid). It wasnt bad though. I am thinking that next I will try some of the angel hair or spagetti type. I think that might not be as squishy since they are thinner.

Overall I am impressed. Its made of all fiber so it's 0 net carbs. I am looking forward to trying out some more of the types I got. So long as the rest seem okay, I think I would buy this often enough to keep a hefty supply. The web site says you can keep the bags for up to a year.

Im curious to know if anyone else tried it out and what ya thought? Or if anyone might consider ordering some now?

the suishiness is characteristic of it in any form and it absorbs the flavor of your food you add it to.

be careful of portion size cause even though it is actually 94% water if can make a plug inside you if you eat to much.

Yep. I just tried some too (ordered from the UK). I too found it 'interesting'. Not bad. Not wonderful. Was wondering what the calorie count is though. Assume it's low, as the noodles are mostly water, I believe. I could only buy the squiggly very thin noodles. There was no other choice.

I'd definitely buy more of these if the postage weren't so expensive. Although I wouldn't consider them a substitute for pasta...they are a good thing to put sauce on when I've made pasta for the rest of the family. If I do get a real pasta yen, I go with Dreamfields(higher carbs and cals); but that's not too often, as I'm not sure how they do what they do to it to make the stuff blood sugar friendly. Hence I tend to go sparingly. Secret recipes make me suspicious! lol. But Dreamfields really is a pasta substitute. Wouldn't advise people to eat Dreamfields before maintenance though...

          I ordered from www.konjacfoods.com

According to the site, the noodles are ZERO net carbs and ZERO calories. The only nutritional value they have is 3 grams of fiber.

I paid 8 dollars shipping. And that would be from California to Chicago, Illinois.

I found it works best in those brothy Asian-style soups or Asian-style recipes than it does as a European "spaghetti" substitute. The appearance and texture is similar to the "cellophane" or mung bean noodles.

thanks. I just placed an order from asian food grocer and the shipping was reasonable. I paid about a dollar fifty a bag and got several different types... my shipping was 10 bucks... not too bad, I purchased from there cause I could get different types to try out first...

                Re: Konjac Glucomannan

Luckly for me, I can buy them at my local grocery store. I usually buy a bag every other week and cook them in my spagetti sauce with some lowcarb meatballs. Taste wise you really can't tell the difference between them and real pasta, just the texture is different. One night we had company for dinner and I told everyone they were a new brand of pasta and everyone loved them!! (until I told them what they were!!)

It's funny - I ordered from konjac so many years ago when I was first on Atkins and finding the site again was fun. I had gotten a bunch before and then went off the wagon - but I just ordered 2 packages of the Angel Hair because I make dang good homemade spaghetti sauce and I want to eat it Spent the entire summer it felt like canning it!
