  • i need your opinion

i know it's been asked 50 million bajillion times

but tomorrow is my weigh-in day and i am getting a little nervous. I am worried that i am setting really unrealistic goals for myself and that i am convincing myself that they are achivable. If i do that and then if i don't reach them i am really likely to just say sod it and give up.....

so if you would be so kind to give me all your opinions on the reality of these goals.... has anyone had luck with similar goals? do u have a more realistic goal i should shoot for? I just feel like i am getting nowhere....

    goals
for spring march 20th in 30 days:
i would like to be down to 166.6 thats a 10lb loss. but i would be happy with just being out of the 170's

and my biggest goal, as it coinsides with seeing my family, april 13th (the start of easter weekend):
i would like to be down to 156 or at least in the 150's

i am thinking these are too ambitious given the time constraints.....

    what do u think?

For me, I would never be able to lose 10lb's in 30 days, I lose and everage of 1 lb a week....But if you know that you are a fast loser, maybe you can do it.

Some people need to set goals that are a little harder to achieve to make them try harder, other people get discouraged frem not reaching a certain goal. What kind of person are you?

My goals are based on 1lb a week.....but that will still mean hard work for me....

      Re: i need your opinion

I'm only on my third week, but I think I can relate. At the end of my first week of induction I had lost 8 pounds. The next week I lost 3 pounds. I was really discouraged and almost gave up. I read about the process of some other people on the board and decided that since I didn't have as much to lose as some other people, I would lose weight more slowly. This point was driven home by my fiance, who ate the low-carb meals I made at home but ate carbs at work (he doesn't want to be 'on a diet'.) He weighs nearly 100 pounds more than me and he ended up losing 12 pounds over the last three weeks even though he wasn't 'trying' (sigh.)

I decided this: It took me three years to gain this weight and I'll be happy losing 1 pound a week. In at least forty weeks, I'll be at my goal and that makes me happy.

First mini-goal: Lose 10 lbs- buy new graphite set--Woot!
Second Mini-goal: Lose 15 pounds- get a new book
Big mini-goal: See my collarbones- Priceless!

I agree with you, it will still take me less time to lose it than it did to put it all on.
Its my fourth week. Im down only 4 kilos. My goals was to lose 6 till next SAturday, impossible. It has been hard because I dont lose a pound for 2 weeks. But what can I do? which are my options?
-strart to eat bad things again, gain the 4 kilos plus another 4 feel awful and start again even heavier?
        - go on even if it is hard sometimes, everytime the scale doesn movo or, even worse goes up?

Think about your options. Losing 10 or 5 kilos a month it is not more important as knowing that you are doing the best thing for you and your health.

What phase of Atkins are you on? Are you drinking minimum 64 oz of water everyday? What kind of exercise are you doing, how many times per week? All of these things need to be taken into consideration before I could say if 10 pounds in 1 month is possible. I have lost 10 pounds in 1 month the last time I was on Atkins, but I worked my hinie off doing it! I walked 2 miles in the morning and 1 mile in the evening and I was doing water aerobics and lifting weights, upper body one day, lower body the next 6 days a week. If you really want it, go for it! What is the worst that could happen, you might only lose 8 pounds, but 1" off your chest, waist, butt & thighs? That would be great!

              Re: i need your opinion

Instead of setting goals for weightloss in a certain time - which your body may decide to co-operate with or may not - why not set goals that you can have control over?

If you are struggling with food choices set a goal for xx days cheatfree, if exercise is hard to get into, set a goal for xx minutes x days a week of exercise, of you find it hard to get your minimum water intake, set a goal for xx ounces of water per day for a week and maybe increasing to xxx ounces the next week and so on.

As has been said - there are so many variables that might mean you would not reach an arbitrary loss of so many pounds by such and such date.

Also set and celebrate reaching 'minigoals' of weightloss too at whatever timescale they happen. Find some non-food rewards you can give yourself when you achieve each goal to make them special.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
