Me, me...pick me...I'm cool too! Well ok, maybe not cool in the true sense of the word but I'm sure there's a definition of it somewhere that fits me...ok, I'll admit it...I'm not cool at all..I'm a geek!

Oh yeah...what I really wanted to say was welcome. You're going to like it here.

Thank you, thank you, thank you ALL for such a warm welcome, and the kind words!
I didn't mention that I have been lurking the boards for a while, and I already love it here!
Elizellen - you've spent more time in Africa than I have. Maybe I shouldn't be able to call myself "African" American, since I've never been there! By the way your loss is amazing!!
John, whatever it takes to stay out of Starbucks!
Wannabethintoo - you ARE cool, and your weight loss is awesome! I think all of us would be considered "geeks" by those that don't go online and post to forums! Oh well, sticks and stones, right?
floydgirl - wow! you and your daughter are similar to my mother and me! She's 5'3" and I'm 5'11". Too cool!
Well, I am strictly a runner now, although I am also playing softball for the company team. But I played volleyball, basketball, and ran track in high school, and I competed in track in college. In college, I specifically concentrated on high jump. After college (now), I just run as many days a week as I can, and do weight training, and I still jump into a pickup basketball game whenever I can. My exercise of choice is running! Fawn, I admire how you've maintained your weight loss for 6 years! You all are so inspiring!

                    Dee,
I am encourage by the weight lost but more so by the energy level, mine wasn't low but I am speeding now! Also by the inches lost. Yes I exercise, on my elliptical machine 5 days a week and I lift weights twice a week. You are tall and very athletic, so I am sure if you stick with it you will break records and achieve your goals very fast.

I am African American, not sure about being cool. Don't think the two are synonymous, but consider myself to be a good person.
                    Peace!!

It is hard to find any African-American ladies on these boards that are doing Atkins, and I just want to see how many of "us" are out there. Allow me to introduce myself; My name's Dee, I'm 5'11" 26 years and have been an athlete all my life. I did Atkins to drop a few inches that I picked up from 3 years of marriage and I've been losing inches (I'm not worried about the scale because I'm very muscular) since I started on January 1. I lift weights and run 5 days a week, and have found that I have more energy to do this on Atkins. That's me, please make yourselves known. Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you all.

Glad to meet you! How long have you been at this? I hope all is going well for you. I know it's sometimes difficult in our culture to pass up some of the food that we were raised on, but I'm finding it easy to politely say "no, thank you" when I'm offered something that is high in carbs.
I was born and raised in Charleston SC and still live here. I grew up on soul food, and everything is served with rice. But the soul food is low carb if you leave the rice off, so I still cook it and still feel like I'm eating the food I grew up on..
cabbage, collard greens, okra gumbo, rutabagas, yadda yadda yadda.

I THOUGHT the culture thing was an issue, but its not. You can suit soul food to be low carb and it works PERFECTLY.

                              AllieCat,

You have had great success!!! My late father was from Charleston and we spent summers down there at my aunt's home. Funny you mentioned rice. My mother use to tease my father alot about eating all that rice. The one dish I do miss, I wil l have to dig up the receipe, is the okra and tomato dish.
With your sucess, I am wondering can you briefly share your weight lost story? Any tips for a sista ?

Hey AllieCat, I recognize you from the Napp website! I was searching the forums there to find any sistas on Atkins and I ran across some posts by you, and the link to your webpage. Your results are amazing, and you have done well to maintain! Thanks for the tips on low carb soul food. You are right, it's only the rice and bread that makes it untouchable. Actually, I'm here in Texas and it's the potatoes, sweet potatoes (which I love), and cornbread that gets me! Thanks again for your post and the inspiration.

BTW, I haven't posted on Napp, I just lurk. But in case you were interested, I'm transitioning (10 months now).
