  • Success Depends On One Person

I keep reading alot of newbie posts that ask "will this work for me?" in one form or fashion .. I can't help but say " well ... that depends".

    Depends on what?

Sure there are lots of factors that determine whether or not this WOL will work for folk. Such factors? Well, medications, for one. Some medications can interfere with the ability to shed pounds, we know that. There are metabolic factors that play a part. There are a host of things that can affect a person's ability to shed pounds.

But the *biggest* factor is: PERSONAL COMMITMENT. Are you in it to get to a certain weight and then go back to eating junk? Are you in it to fit into a certain size, and then abandon it? I can guarantee failure for you. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but its true.

This is NOT a quick fix. This is NOT a temporary solution. This is NOT a 'just until I get to ....." No No No.

Your long-term success is dependent upon ONE factor. YOU. Whether you want it badly enough to make PERMANENT changes to the way you eat, the way you work out, the way you THINK about food.

Atkins is not a bus that you hop on for a RIDE .. its not a quick fix. Its committing to a lifestyle change ONCE AND FOR ALL .. to look at it any other way is doing a disservice to the genius who put it all together.

So .. what's your level of commitment? I'm in this for the LONG HAUL. What about you?

    Excellent words, Betty.
No one can do it for us, either it is time to make that change, or you will fail. For me, it just all came together, and the successes have reinforced my determination.
I am not normally a person of exceptionally strong willpower, but I see this as my last chance and that and the big losses at the start have kept me motivated.

And we should always remember that the word diet means:
a way of life; lately relating to food (Chambers 20th Century dictionary).

Thank you! Great post Commitment is definitely the key (to this or anything else). If you believe you can do it, you'll do it. If you stick to it, you'll do it. When I've "failed" it's because I wasn't committed. I'd start because Sunday was the 1st of the month and that seemed a good time, or it was New Years, or vacation -- some external reason. This time I HOPE I'm committed I'm doing it because I have to.

I'm so glad that you wrote this post Betty. All my life I hoped and wished I could lose the weight and when I didn't, I had a zillion excuses. I now realize that we are the only ones who can make it happen for us. We can succeed or fail...it is up to us. I've succeeded this time because I made a committment to myself that I'd do it regardless of how many hurdles I had to jump. It was so worth the effort. I've changed my attitude towards everything I try to accomplish now. I realize that if I want it, I have to put in 100% effort. Wishing and hoping doesn't get the job done. Action is the thing that works. Atkins works if you put it to work for you. Not if you wish you could be thinner without putting any effort into it.

                  Great words ttdriver.....it's so true....
I can't even count how many times I have done a diet, lost the 20 pounds I wanted and rewarded myself with food.....
But when you read DANDR....when you REALLY read it, you understand why this is so important. You have to decide that you want to be healthy, and not only thin....

Re: Success Depends On One Person

So very true... Those trying to ride the "Atkins ride" to see how far it takes them are only setting themselves up for disappointment when the ride breaks down or slows down. Each of us is the author of our own success story. How do you want that story written? I know I don't want to be the guy who lost all the weight and then regained it back because it was too tough. Continue to make choices that lead you to the journey. The journey and the required amount of daily commitment to right decision making does get easier in time as the bad choices don't seem as "right" or desireable anymore, but nevertheless you will still be confronted with tough decisions or tough situations from time to time.

It's at those moments you have to call upon the reserves of all the right decisions and react one of them. Great post Betty.

Re: Success Depends On One Person

I agree to a degree! Im very dedicated but i still have a drink at my rock concerts and a smoke or so as a 'treat' if i really binge ill have a take away, most of the time it causes me to regain 1lb, but thats always gone again in a day or 2.

I think as long as you stay concious about what you are eating its pretty ok, and having a take away once every 4 weeks or so or getting really drunk really doesnt do me any harm that wasnt worth it.

If im only drinking i can go out and get totally wasted and not stop weight loss as long as i stick to pure spirits.

I know you will all disagree with me, but theres more to life than looks, dont think i could ever give up alcohol and marrowana entirely even if it made me look like brad pitt or whatever.
