  • Ketostix

I have been turning ketostix dark brown for about two weeks but I am not losing weight after initially losing about 7 pounds. I have even gained some weight. What does this mean? If ketones in the urine indicate that I am burning fat for energy why have I already plateaued? Help! Thanks.

You may not be losing weight, but you may be losing inches! Have you measured?

    Just a thought.

It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

What is a typical menu for you? Using any "low carb" products? Artificial sweeteners?

Are you eating until you are satisfied and then stopping? Drinking your water? How far away from goal are you?

Post some of this and we'll see what may be going on!

To help people advise you better can you add some stats to your signature - like your height, gender, current and goal weight?
It would make any advice much more relevant!

there are many bodily functions that can cause body weight to fluctuate. as Rich suggested measure and see if inches of fat are being shed.

it is very common to have a weight loss slow down right after an initial weight loss during the first 2 weeks of any weight loss plan. I call this the post induction scale weight loss hesitation and it happend on every diet plan. this is where folk think it has stopped working forthem and quit when infact they are shedding fat mass. Unless you are over eating your atkins you are losing fat.

I discovered that the darker the keto stick, the more dehydrated I am! The more water I drink, the lighter it gets! My DH, has never made the keto stik change color and he loses weight like crazy, I just don't think those things work!

              Re: Ketostix

Thank you to all who replied to my message re turning ketostix dark brown but still not losing weight and even gaining. I am 5' 8.5" and was 205 pounds now down to about 195. There has been no reduction in my girth (42").

My protein source is fish and eggs and some soy beans. On the side I have cooked broccoli or brussel sprouts with melted hard cheese and tahini on them. I also have a large spinach salad with alfalfa sprouts, 2 ounces of feta cheese and 3 tablespoons of olive oil. I have one Atkins Advantage bar every day. I do sweeten my coffee and tea with Splenda and stevia. I whiten it with 3 tablespoons of whipped cream.

I suppose I am going over the 20 grams of carbs but then why do I turn the ketostix so dark? I guess you can't lose on the Atkins Diet without exercise. My initial weight loss was when I was walking at least 90 minutes a day. I have been on the diet 3 weeks now and have plateaued at 195 pounds.

Thanks again for all of your suggestions.

                Re: Ketostix

After three weeks I don't think you can have reached the rung that allows for soy beans. Also, I'd drop the Atkins bars until you are closer to pre maintenance...and even then, use sparingly. Keep within the recommended three teaspoons of splenda.

The ketostix do turn darker the less you drink. When I drank more than two and a half litres mine never did turn colour at all. I wouldn't put too much store by the stix... people are all different and they are not that reliable.

It's very likely that you'll notice a difference if you measure.

                Hang in there!
