  • Okay, things are definitely interesting...

Apparently, I have had a successful first week. I figured I would try something in addition to Atkins, because I still had them, and... well, here's the story.

I was at my parents house last weekend, right before I started the diet.
I used the scale, and it read that I was at 250. So, that's my starting weight.

I start the diet on Sunday, and with my new job, I am working out as well. 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, constant walking and running around, moderate to heavy lifting. On my off days, I try to get in a little DDR. (Dance Dance Revolution. It's fun, good music, and great cardio. You'll see people playing it at the mall.)

I also had some leftover advocare pills, so I'm using those as my vitamins until I can get some actual vitamins. Not sure what to get though. Suggestions would be helpful. *hint hint

So anyways, towards the end of the week, I felt it a little in my waist. A difference. At the beginning of the week, I bought a belt. Size 38-40. Had a little trouble getting it to it's biggest setting, but I bought it anyway, knowing that it would fit me soon enough. And a couple of pairs of pants, with the same reasoning.

Towards the end of the week, the pants are fine, and the belt is at the second largest setting.

I bought a scale today, and when I weighed myself, I'm down to 239. So, either I had a successful first week, or the scale at my mom's house is broken.

Oh, I can't give an accurate measurement count, because I couldn't find my tape measure when I started, and I finally caved and just bought one the other day.

Re: Okay, things are definitely interesting...

Advocare is a bunch of pills, mostly vitamins probably, but it's supposed to supress one's appetite. I used to work at a pharmacy, and a lot of people were on them, and just about everyone who took them lost a good deal of weight, and a couple were so convinced, they decided to start selling it as well.

My mom had gotten some for herself, but she has some minor heart problems, so she couldn't take them, because they had an adverse effect for her. Rather than what they were supposed to do, they made her tired, and gave her mild chest pains.

But, my friend Genevieve knows a guy that had to get a new wardrobe every 2 weeks, because of the advocare pills. But, I cannot personally tell you how good they are. Like I said, I'm just taking them, because they have a lot of vitamin stuff in them. And, I should run out the same day I get my next paycheck, so I can get me some actual vitamins. I'm not buying advocare. It's like 40 bucks for 2 weeks supply, and it does the same thing Atkins does, in my opinion.

But yeah, 11 pounds in the first week. Let's see how week 2 does...

          Congratulations on the great success!

Yes, definitely nix the Advocare and invest in good vitamins. A good multi-vitamin WITHOUT IRON is a must.

Also calcium, magnesium, potassium are good. You should take Fish Oil (omega 3), CoQ10, and extra vitamin C, E, & B.

Here's what I take and have taken for the past 4 years:

Sentury-Vite (Walmart brand) Multi-vitamin without iron
          Vit B
          1500 mg Vit C
          1800 mg of Calcium
          2 Fish Oil capsules
          2 flush-free niacin 500 mg each
          2 green tea extract
          1 milk thistle
          1 biotin
          1 chromium picolinate (400 mcg)
          1 odorless garlic 1200 mg
          1 Vit E (400 IU)
          3 gingko biloba

Cioabella--in his intro he said that he works at a warehouse. It's nice when your job also doubles as your workout!

TT--what do you take the green tea pills for? Out of curiousity.

And now, back on topic--Congrats about your amazing progress. I'm so jealous! I just want to say, don't just credit that amazing drop in appetite to the Advocare. This is something your body naturally induces when going into induction. I can understand the appeal, but eh, it's just not a good idea until you're farther along and really understand your body's natural cycles in terms of hunger and weight loss.

Re: Okay, things are definitely interesting...

Oh, yeah, I'm not saying that the loss is due to the advocare. I'm just using the advocare as a temporary vitamin replacement, until I can get some vitamins recommended on the forums. The advocare has fish oil, and a lot of other good stuff, but it's not worth the price in my opinion.
And, it's too many dang pills for one day. 4 before breakfast, 5 with breakfast, or lunch, and 3 before lunch. I think most people lose weight, because their stomachs don't have room for much else.

well since you are giving them up you will be happy to know Atkins eating has a sideeffect that suppresses Appetite so you can eat to only feed your hunger.

                    Congrats on your great start.

                    Happy low carbing.

Don't know wht Betty takes them but I drink green tea for the thermogesic action, the antioxidents, and the HDL raising chems all teas contain.

                      Welcome.
Just something to keep in mind. Many people have their weight loss slow week 2 or 3. Dont start worring Atkins is not working or that you need to take those pills again. Weight loss just naturally slows.

Well done. If you have a lot to lose this is not a really startling result for week 1 of induction. I lost 7 kg (15.4lbs) on a totsal of 131 kg or about 150lbs.

Keep up the good work. Post your stats or start a ticker from www.tickerfactory.com so we can see how much you had to lose at your start.

Re: Okay, things are definitely interesting...

Okay, lets see if I got this right. I started 2 wks ago, and today, Saturday, is officially my last day of induction. I'm going to do extended induction, just to see where that takes me.

As of yet, I am down again, but if I'm reading the scale correctly, I now weigh 229 pounds. Of course, the scale was moved, so the accuracy could be compromised. Oh well.

As for measuring myself, how exactly does one measure properly? I mean, I can't really find the place where I was measuring myself last time, and I never feel that I am getting it right? Any tips?
