oh god I love Trader Joes, my nearest one is 90 minutes away (I take a cooler and scope the sale ads for there, Whole Foods and Wild Oats before I go) . they have FABULOUS sausages made from chicken. all natural, no fillers or other garbage in them. The cheese selection is to die for. They have some nice buffalo burgers (come frozen) as well if you dont have a local buffalo grower topurchase from. I think their veggies (fresh) are a little higher in cost then local farmers markets for sure and even some mainstream groceys as well.

        yup TJ's is a cool store ..
you do not need our advice I promise you will find everything you need there at pretty good prices....the hardest part is not over running your budget!!!

bring the list of acceptable foods if you are on induction otherwise you can just browse and buy....the items there are all clearly marked with counts on the back....
they have reasonable supplements and lots of nice bath stuff as well...flowers, baskets....all kinds of things

Well, I would stock up on almond flour and tomato sauce if it's a distance out so that you can have them for OWL. They have a three cheese marinara that only has 3 carbs for 1/2 cup that is SO GOOD. mMMmMmM.

Trader Joe's is fabulous. I love their nut selection, and even their meats are fantastic.

I am back! I bought very little for myself-more for my son. I did pick up the Chicken Sausage-green beans-salmon and some other stuff. However, I did leave feeling a little disappointed. I expected more-maybe it was this particular Joe's, I dont know. I think I will give it one more try and take it from there.

                Thanks for all your input!

                  Re: Trader Joes???

hmmm...what were you expecting?? Trader Joe's isn't a typical grocery store. It's smaller and more specialized towards natural foods. I've found that in my town, the best time to go is in the morning, because by the afternoon, they've been picked clean of a lot of cheeses and meats. My advice would be to go in the morning, and take lots of time to really go and look at everything. They don't have a lot of prepackaged refined "low-carb" foods, but they have a heck of a lot of natural, whole foods that are naturally low carb. I also buy my dish soap, lotion and vitamins here...

I am not sure Softnred, I think I was expecting this really huge store with alot of LC choices or substitutions. They did have alot of organic and healthy stuff.....I dont know?? Maybe it was the size that boggled me!

I am going to try again, cant always go with the first impression.

Colklnk, if you want BIG, check out Whole Foods or Wild Oats. Most TJs are small stores but they are cheaper then WF or WO by far because they dont have the overhead. The two mentioned are worth going to just to visit at least once. WF is expensive inmy opinion. WO, you can get good deals on occasionally.

                        Hi colklnk38,

I felt the same way the first time I went to Trader Joe's ... I thought it would be a bigger store too. But now I love it, I don't do major shopping, but there are a few items I pick up regularly.

When you say LC choices and substitutions, can you give an example of what you were looking for?

My favorite things to buy at Trader Joes are the baby artichokes, the orange oil infused vinegar, and the Pignola Pepita PineNut such and such snack mix.

Right now they have chunked frozen squashes in bags at mine. I got a few of those.

I do most of my grocery shopping at TJ's. Mine has Niman ranch beef which is awesome. Hormone free range etc. Nuts, cream, cheese, teas, All of the different cheeses at such great prices! Akmak crackers, protein powder, soy milk, canned tomatoes, dried fruit without sulfites or sugar, eggs, fresh organic fruit and of course it depends on the level of Atkins you are on right now as well. Once you really get into this and do a great deal of cooking you will utilize your TJ's more and more.
