I am using fitday, and I entered 2 eggs and it said there was 1 carb.ARent eggs carb free? Were told to eat as many as we want, but if theres carbs, than ultimately we cant not count them.Is this right? Also all the cheese I buy reads 0 carbs, yet in the book it says to count cheese an oz as 1 carb. Why is mine doesnt have carbs?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Re: Carb Questions

Items that contain less than 1 gram can be shown as 0 carb on the label. Eggs have .6 grams, therefore, they can be labelled as 0 carb.

      Re: Carb Questions

Yup, lots of foods contain carbs. We need some good carbs in our diet and that's why those three cups of veggies as per the rules of induction are so important. If you follow the rules, eat only what's on the acceptable food lists and measure, drink your water, take your supplements and exercise, you'll be successful and I guarantee you will not go over 20 net grams of carbs per day.

Ok, so I should ignore when fitday adds a carb for my eggs?Or would they be fibre so they are deducted?Am I catching onto this?

No... count the carb in the egg and add it to your daily total.

            Re: Carb Questions

            yes, as Betty said
            add the egg's carb and
add the cheese ones too as 1carb per oz (as DA suggests)
My first time around I was neglecting those little carbs (garlic, black pepper, eggs, coffee) and summed up at the end of the day they were a bunch!!!

oh.....ok, I guess the book confuses me, cos on my masterlist eggs fall under foods you do not need to limit. This is just normal addition to get to 20carbs?Obviously the salad doesnt total 20.....so the difference is just those few items that have a few carbs, that make up the 20?I am sooooooo trying to get this 100% right.Sorry if I ask so many questions, just want to do this correctly.

What book are you using because DANDR 2002 says "liberally" not "unlimited"?

Eggs have carbs, so count them. I find counting those carbs and other undeclared carbs, like the ones in heavy cream, also teaches you about portion control, which helps you learn to self-regulate your food intake.

                    Re: Carb Questions

Eggs aren't limited, per se, but you still can't go over 20 carbs for the day.

Vegetables are limited to 3 cups, regardless of carbs.

It's a bit confusing at first but you'll get the hang of it. Good luck.

That explains alot....Do you know that books lists tomatoes as a "salad" vegetable at 2-3 cups? 1/2 cup raw chopped tomato has about 5 net carbs, so if you eat according to Atkins Essentials you can technically eat about 20 to 30 net carbs worth of tomatoes is you follow their 2-3 cup salad veg rule.....

ok, just keep in mind, I asked about eggs and on the wallet size list I printed out it clearly has eggs as an acceptable food, nothing about limiting it.This is where I am getting confused.

They're not limited like cheese and artificial sweeteners (which you should only have a few servings of daily) but you still can't go over your 20 carbs a day, even if the carbs are from eggs.

                            Re: Carb Questions

I agree, but I didnt know eggs had carbs, so perhaps that should be included somewhere here, so us newbies understand that you need to add some carbs to our totals if you choose to eat eggs, cos after reading the book I have, it doesnt say anything about that.I think theres where some confusion lies with us newbies.

Because he didn't put it in that book. By the time Atkins Essentials was written, Dr. Atkins had been dead at least a year and Atkins Nutritionals, Inc. was running the show---and they changed a number of things like allowing grains during Induction, even though Dr. Atkins said "no grains" in his book.

In the back of DANDR 2002, there is a section with a "carb counter" of some selected foods. Eggs are listed as 0.6 "digestible carbs". Digestible carbs is the same thing as net carbs.

You count all the carbs to the foods you eat. If a food doesn't have carbs---don't worry about counting it. If a food does have carbs, count it. Some foods we think are "carb-free" do contain carbs like heavy cream, most bacons and other processed meats, etc. So if you're in doubt use a carb counter to make sure.

It's understandable that you didn't know since you are a newbie. But you know now. So, you'll be able to adjust your Atkins accordingly.
