  • Oprah Says

Was watching Oprah today and she made a comment.
She was talking to a woman who was overweight, but she was addressing her comments to most people who are overweight when she said,
"You don't think you're good enough. You don't think you're good enough to be loved and until you change that, you will always have a problem with your weight."
    Your thoughts?

For me personally, I agree. Everyone sees a very confident man, but really, I'm not. I do have tons going for me and count my blessings every day, but I have to say that I agree with Oprah.

    Your thoughts?

I think she is right on with this...it is very very true. I think to add to this like when we try to lose weight for others we tend to fail at it...when we do it because we finally want to do it only for ourselves it when we achieve at our fullest!

Definitely, when you have to do anything, you will always do it if its for "you". Same with giving up anything, you have to WANT to do it......

Wow! When did they start showing Oprah there? Because her shows in the 80s and early 90s were more like a toned down version of Jerry Springer than the touchy-feely Oprah now.

For me it hits home. I always felt like the ugly duckling. I was overweight and therefore how could anyone love me? Did I deserve to be loved? The more I obcessed over it, the more I ate and thus...the heavier I became. It wasn't until I started appreciating myself and taking care of me that I realized that people love who you are...not what you look like. If I gave people a person to love -- then they automatically loved me.

Dido!!! Exactly the same for me! The first step to success is admitting we have a problem! And, then taking the steps to fixing it!

                      Re: Oprah Says

I think for me it was mostly learning to love and be proud of myself for something only I can accomplish. If I feel those feelings, I usually feel guilty because I would consider it conceited or arrogant. But there is nothing wrong with feeling proud of one's self and loving yourself because you've accomplished something. It's called self-respect. That is the most valluable lesson I have learned from my weight loss experience. It has permeated every aspect of my life - beyond eating, exercising and weight.

Hmmm well I am still called big bad john soooooo...

Oprah is a yoyo dieting control freak who makes her money sensationalizing other human beings misery and making sweeping generalisations about any subject she quite wrongly feels she is an "expert" on.

Take that Oprah you yoyo dieting nincompoop!

Absolutely. Loving yourself is the first step toward becoming all you can be. If you don't believe you're worth being at your best, you will never be at at your best. Period.

                              lol john!
i can't completely agree with Oprah. I mean i've had self esteem issues, i tend to avoid people who are really stuck on themselves because i feel that they wouldn't like me. But i don't know if thats not loving myself or just personality clashing.
I mean, if people can't love me the way i am at my highest weight or my lowest, maybe they aren't people worth loving back.
