  • Broken toe!!!

    Hello,
While exercising this morning I broke my Big toe..
I have the grace of a drunk elephant right now.
Anyway my Dr. put me on hydrocodone for the next 6 days..
I am on day 8 of induction and I dont want to take anything that would mess me up.
Does anyone know if this is atkins friendly?
All help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Another day, in a new weigh!!!

    Re: Broken toe!!!

Ouch. I'm sorry to hear about your toe. I don't know about the medication or whether it will jeopardize your weight loss. I can tell you that when I first began Atkins, I ruptured two disks in my back and was bedridden for 6 weeks till I got into see a neuro-surgeon. I was on pain pills. I still lost weight and I followed the plan except for the exercise portion. Ride it out, then get back into the exercising after your toe has healed. Best wishes for your toe to recover quickly!!!

ouch did he goive you a walking shoe foryour toe too?

you will not need the meds for the full time just use them now forthe pain and as you can manage you can lower your does and get off them.

      Hope you heal up well.

      Happy low carbing.

        Re: Broken toe!!!

When I broke my toe a few years ago my doctor strapped it to the toe next to it for me.

Stopped a lot of the pain and I could just about get to the shops and back...

        Anyhow get well soon.

          Re: Broken toe!!!

My Dr. put padding between the toes and taped it, then he put me in a special sock and a cushioned open boot. He told me it should heal in a few weeks, but I have to go see him again next Monday so he can check it.
I am still going to exercise, but nothing that would affect my feet in any way.

Thanks for all the advice and well wishes!!

            Re: Broken toe!!!

Hydrocodone (related to codeine) is in a class of drugs called narcotic analgesics. It relieves pain.

With acetaminophen (tylenol), it's comonly known as Vicodin.

Hydrocodone is very similar to morphine.

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS MAY INCLUDE: dizziness, light-headedness, nausea, sedation, vomiting, and constipation.

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS: allergic reactions, blood disorders, mood changes, mental cloudiness, anxiety, lethargy, urine retention, ureteral spasm, irregular breathing, respiratory depression, and skin rash.

--So you're going to be sleepy and constipated.

                  Re: Broken toe!!!

You have my sympathy. I once broke mine splitting wooid - the sledgehammer slipped off the wedge and hit my toe! It hurt a lot and I said some very rude words. You'll find the weirdest things will hurt it. Just listen to your body and baby that toe a bit.
I've never had the constipation thing with codeine, but if you get a bad headache, it is a codeine headache, so don't take more, switch to aspirin or paracetamol for a dose or two. Apparently ir builds up in the system and causes a headache.
