  • I still get hungry, am I out of Ketosis?

I was wondering, is it bad that I still feel hungry sometimes?? Not all out, oh gosh I will die if I don't eat something, but a hungry kind of feeling if it has been a while since I ate (I never go over the 6 hour rule). I am usually hungry for breakfast, and after I work out. I have not cheated and have not gone over my net carbs. I did start OWL on Monday. Am I doing something wrong?? Any advice would be great!

I think I am doing pretty well and I still feel hungry at times too. I would think on it and see if you were maybe a little more active before you were feeling hungry. Maybe your body needed it. You could have inadvertently eaten something with a higher glycemic index or piled your allowed carbs into a small time frame - either one could have spiked your blood sugar and caused a craving.

The main thing to consider (for me) is how does your 'hunger' now compare to pre-Atkins? Ketosis keeps me from feeling the way I used to. Also, if my cravings were to suddenly kick in, I might have to revisit the issue of ketosis.

I bet you are doing fine. OWL is just like any other phase of Atkins - an opportunity to learn your body's responses and figure out what is going on. I say if you are hungry, eat!

I would not worry about wheather or not you are in Ketosis or not, simply follow the plan and as long as you are seeing results why stress about somthiong that is difficult to determine. Remember keep your eye on the prize....if you are getting smaller, and weigh less thatn just keep rolling with it and rocking the scale!!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!

Up until a couple of weeks ago I was feeling hungry all the time too. Than I found out that the bacon I was eating every morning had sugar in it. Once I cut it out of my menu my hunger stopped. Wierd...

Hmmm, these are some good points. I did find bacon and sausage without sugar (it even tastes better than the other kind). I will try drinking water before I decide if I am really hungry or not. It doesn't feel anything like the hunger I used to feel before Atkins, I just read how some people never feel hungry, and it made me wonder. I try to spread my carbs out, and eat veggies at every meal. thanks everyone!!!

Re: I still get hungry, am I out of Ketosis?

being hungry at breakfast is normal even in ketosis as our bodies attempt to get us ready for the day andincrease our bllod sugar levles slightly in antisipation of the increae in actions we will be doing. That will cuase a slight dip in our blood sugar in responce by our bodies to it since we don't have big sugar stores any more.

The drinking will take about 20 min to determine if it is thirst or not as the signalling control centers in the brain are close and spillover occurs in many folk.

As long as you just feed your hunger and nothing else you will be fine. Happy low carbing.

Thank you!!! All the great advice makes me feel much better. I am really working on only feeding my hunger. Its hard to learn, I used to eat even if I wasn't hungry if there was something yummy in the house, but no more!!!

I've found sugary foods before bed tend to make me be STARVING at night. Sometimes I would have a little spoonful of peanut butter while I was working before bed and would wake up needing to eat like it was my job.

I noticed that you started OWL this week. Did you eat any new foods? If so, maybe it is a new food that you ate that has caused you to be hungry.
