  • Recurrent theme: Exercise!

Okay, okay .. I'll admit it up front: I love to talk about exercise! There now .. allow me to say more, please!

Whether you're just starting Atkins or you've been following it for years, if you haven't begun an exercise plan, my question for you is this: WHY NOT?

The value of a regular regimen of exercise has been well-documented since the dawn of time! Yeah, sure, we're *all* busy .. there are only 24 hours in a day and most of us have 25 hours worth of demands a day!!

    But ...

Let me state, yet again, that EXERCISE IS NON-NEGOTIABLE. If you are 'doing Atkins' and not exercising, then sorry to break it to you, but you're not doing it by the book. Our late GREAT Dr. Atkins said so! This isn't just me talkin' here!

If you are about to begin Atkins, let me encourage you to begin an exercise program at the same time. What a perfect combination: Atkins and exercise! You need not be an athlete .. you need not run a marathon .. (although I call tell ya that's pretty cool!) .. all you need is 30 minutes a day of heartrate raising, cardiovascular exercise .. IN ANY FORM! The benefits will astound you!

Make a mini-commitment to exercise everyday for a week and then revisit how you feel at the end of 7 days. My money is on the fact that you'll be hooked and want to keep it up!!

After a week, go for 2 .. then a month! By then, you won't need any more encouragement from me .........

As Nike made famous: JUST DO IT!

Some people like to say "hey I lost all my weight without exercise." Well kudos to them, but I always want to say "imagine how much faster you would have lost it if you would have exercised! And not only that, think how much better you'd look .."

I heartily agree Betty.... even though when I started the WOE, I was a naysayer! Can't say I love to exercise yet...but I certainly have become convinced of it's necessity, and do my stuff assiduously. Since starting to exercise (started a couple of months into Atkins)... I look better and feel way healthier.

    Keep moving folks!

For some reason I have been able to make exercise a habit fairly easy. It has been my eating habits over the years that have sabotaged my progress.

I started Atkins last Thursday and started working out on Monday at the gym. I am walking on the treadmill for 30 mins..then doing the weight machines..then the bike for 30-45 mins. I have much more energy already then I did before. I hope that I am working out enough.

I feel pretty good, even though pretty stiff. My body hasn't seen this much exercise for over 10 years...lol.

                            Re: Recurrent theme: Exercise!

I so agree, Sarah! Without exercise, I'd be INSANE!

Tonight was a classic example. I was buried all day at work today .. it was non-stop chaos .. and so, I get home and think "man, I am waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to tired to run, right?" Wrong. When I don't *feel* like exercising is JUST THE TIME I MUST.

So I went on a run .. 5.5 miles .. oh the first mile was grueling and I'm talkin' to myself the whole way sayin' "see, I told ya I was too tired to do this" ...but I kept going .. by 2 miles I'm thinkin' 'yanno, I feel pretty good" ...

Long story short .. I finished my route and FELT GREAT!

So the moral of the story: If you're too tired to exercise, DO IT ANYWAY! You'll be sooooooooooooooooooo glad you did!
