  • Stomach Noises

Today is my first day on Atkins and I ate cheese and now my stomach is making gurgling noises. My stomach doesn't hurt and I don't feel sick, but the noise is annoying. Is there anyway I can make it stop without canceling cheese from my diet?

Same here. I had the same problem.
No, I don't think there are things you could do about this.
When it happens to me, - all I do is drag in my stomach, so it's hard to hear the noises.

It's horrible! I only had some chedder cheese cubes, so maybe it's just cheddar cheese that does it, I hope so.

Is it when you eat only cheese?
        Maybe it's from hunger.

No it's not from being hungry, that's what I thought, but I ate a meal(hard boiled egg and a veggie sausage) with some cheese cubes, and right after that my stomach wouldn't shut up. Cheese has always made my stomach make noises. I am going to try to eat differcent kinds of cheeses, maybe some I haven't had before, perhaps its just the cheddar that bothers my stomach. I'm just scared that if I can't find a way around the noises from cheeses, that I will quit the atkins really fast.

Why would that make you quit Atkins?? There are many wonderful food choices that don't involve cheese. Do you have the 2002 Edition of Dr. Atkins book? There are all sorts of food choices and options. Are you getting your 3 cups of veggies a day? Please don't give up on this WOL because of cheese.
What would we do without it?

sunflowergrl is right - you dont 'have' to eat cheese on Atkins!

If you like eating it and find all cheese affects you in the same way then you will need to choose carefully the times of day you eat it, so your tummy only growls at times it doesnt matter!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

This sort of noise normally occurs when you change from one set of eating habits to another.

If for example you started a high fibre diet it would happen...or to an Atkins plan, or even from an Atkins plan to a calorie controlled diet. Some people who drink lots of alcohol and then stop also get this problem for awhile. In short its probably caused by changes in lifestyle and diet.

You could also have had trapped air without realising it and the water you have been drinking lately may be starting to cure whatever causes trapped wind in your body.

Sadly even if you quit Atkins that would not guarantee this would stop the noises...If I were you I'd stick with it and see if it passes quickly...

Then again lady66 one of the most wonderful things about Atkins is that it mimics life...The choices are all yours to make.

Why do the noises upset you so much?

                    Re: Stomach Noises

The noises are embrassing. I don't care if my stomach makes noises when I'm at home, but I will just make sure I don't eat cheese before I go out. I just had some string cheese, and my stomach is silent, so I'm really thinking its just cheddar cheese. I am going to go buy some swiss cheese and see if that bothers my stomach. Thanks for the help everyone.

                      Re: Stomach Noises

I am so tired of the noises! I just ate some veggie bacon, and now my stomach is loud!

I used to be vegan, and before I went vegan I'd eat things with dairy in them, and my stomach would make noise, when I became vegan, no more stomach noises, so I guess my stomach is super sensitive to anything with milk and perhaps eggs. If this is so, which I think it is, can I do the Atkins without milk and eggs?

I know at Kroger they have fake cheese, but that stuff isn't cheap. They also sell vegan burgers and other vegan fake meats, but they don't have as nearly as much fake meat for vegans as they do for vegetarians. Can a vegan do Atkins? Or does anyone else know of something I can take( supplements....) that would make my stomach be quiet?

Any help would be just great! Thank you.
