  • What is your cold comfort food?

Our office is getting its kicked this week by colds, flu and Pneumonia.(And we only have 26 people that work in our company!). I am trying to beat my cold by the end of the week so I can go thru with my already planned oral surgery. I was eating cream cheese pats with slices of raw garlic on top ,it really does help my cold! (No one stand close to me even tho I am chewing sugarfree gum!)
I was wondering what your Atkins friendly cold comfort food is?!

My comfort food was cheese wrapped in smoked salmon before I found out I had a yeast infection....Now its a helping of tuna with some celerly sticks.

Hope that cold goes real quickly

I'm just getting over mine. I pretty much lived on chicken broth and green tea.

An old standby I eat when I'm well : a half can of pumpkin, a 3-ounce cube of cream cheese, a good dash of apple pie spice/pumpkin pie spice/ground cinnamon, some butter, and a packet or two of Splenda nuked in the microwave for a minute. It's just heartwarming goodness, and I have it all the time.

I'm with Heidi on the hot and sour soup, it really opens up the old sinuses and seems to warm your bones. I tend to drink lots of tea. The only time that I ever drink diet ginger ale is when I'm sick.

I tend to stop eating when I have a cold (like now)....I have absolutly no appetite, which I guess is OK since I can't taste anything anyway

About the only thing I feel like eating when I'm sick is soup. Homemade chicken broth does the trick for me. Sometimes I'll beat an egg with a couple tablespoons of parmasian cheese and add it to the simmering broth. I think it's called 'stratiatella'. I'm sure I totally misspelled that! It's yummy though.

I usually stay away from dairy, as it tends to add to congestion

                        Lemon Herbal or Green Tea
Chicken broth with or without added veggies
Lots of water (as usual, but perhaps more than usual)
Echinicia drops in the water a few times of day

Re: What is your cold comfort food?

The funny thing is I am still sensitive to smell, (I can smell just about anything blindfolded with or without a cold and tell you what it is) but I lost my sense of taste today which did make me lose my appetite. I have two days to kick this bugger. This morning I have settled down with a mug of chicken broth, I have a sliced up garlic and a little diced ginger floating in it. I can smell them both but can't really taste them. I am trying to flush this puppy out of my system!
