  • Yet another question about ratios!!!

Okay, I know the ratios, 65 fat/30protein/5 carbs (3 cups).

My question is this: If my ratios are dead on, I'll either lose inches or pounds. It works... but if I have an off day, which everyone does, and I eat all my veggies, but my fat and protein are more balanced, forget it. I won't lose anything.

    Does this happen to everyone?

I just ordered Atkins For Life from Borders, so forgive me, but I thought your ratios change they don't stay 65/30/5 forever. IF they do change, and I don't eat as much fat, I know everything will stall.

So I guess, has this happened to anyone else, and if they do, what do the ratios change too??

Thanks for answering a question thats probably been asked a jillion times!

Maybe it differs from person to person, because I know there's been days when I still had some to lose and I OD'ed on salad, (and I've posted enough about my egg addiction to warrent a protein overdose too). If you still need to lose and the ratios work for you I'd say stick with it. When you move into pre-maintence as long as you don't gain you'll probably start to be able to have more off days.

The ratios will change as you move through the phases of Atkins. Protein will always remain at about the same, but your fats will go down as your carbs go up. You will, however, always eat slightly higher fat then carbs. By maintenance we'll have learned portion control and know how certain foods affect our bodies.

        *LOL* I love Dr. Atkins.

I just *CANNOT* get over the fact that DUH, you eat LESS fats to KEEP your body from losing more weight! LOL
        Who woulda thunk it?!?

Because the less fat I eat, the less I lose. It's just funny to me b/c for all those years I did low fat and couldn't lose! LOL

you are looking at a maintnenace fat level of around 50% so it comes down slowly as you add back your carbs cause remember fats are 2.25 times more caloricaly dense then carbs gram for gram.

there are some metabolicaly challenged folk who have a CCLL of just 20 grams so they will always be having almost induction level fats.

Okay thanks! That sounds like me, but I guess I will see when I start stepping through the rungs.

If you do find you are 'metabolically challenged' when you start on OWL and cant eat a higher carb count and still lose weight therefore have a lowish CCLL you can always do a 'modified OWL' .
Which means that once you reach your CCLL (and stop losing weight) you continue climbing the OWL ladder but keep your carbs at below your CCLL by 'swapping' rungs instead of adding 5 net carbs for each.
This way you can discover if any particular foods affect you badly but still be losing weight.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

And the lonnger you do Atkins the better your body will get metabolically and as you increase your active life style ( that includes the exercise in Dr Atkins mind) you can get a higher CCLL

You guys are wonderful. Thanks so much!!!

I think modified OWL is probably going to be my route, but I will wait and see. Like 2 big said, perhaps my metabolism will get a bit better. I plan to be on Extended Induction for a while.

All of your advice is VERY helpful and I feel as though I understand just a Little bit more about this WOL. Thanks so much
