Pork chops are generally a lot cheaper here than most meats. Is that the same in the States?

Oh honey, I am ALWAYS broke!! LOL.

Since steaks are sooo yummy, yet expensive, make minutes steaks.

Take ground beef, add some seasonings if ya like, and make the meat into THIN patty type shape, kinda like a burger, but not as thick. Then fry them up with some mushrooms and onions and VOILA a yummy cheap dinner!

Canned tuna is pretty cheap, the chunk light is a lot cheaper than the solid white, it does taste different, but it's a meal...I eat the light all the time.

I hope this helps even a tiney bit!

I never had Toefo is it ok if you have HYPOTHYROID I ahve heard it's not good if you have it???But I suppose for a couple days it would be ok.

Basically you need to make this food last for two weeks right?

The eggs and vegetables can be used to extend the meat ration you have.

Use a part of the meat ration to make casseroles or stirfry.

Hamburger meat can be sauteed and extended with the eggs for meat and veg omelettes.

Pork chops: If they have bones, slice use the meat of two pork chops. Slice them into strips, and use for stir fry.

Steak: slice it into strips, use for stir fry or a veggie-meat casserole.

Chicken: slice into strips or cubes, for stir fry or veggie-meat casserole.

Soup is filling and nourishing. You can make your own by boiling meat bones (any kind will do) in water. If you can spare enough for a can of chicken or vegetable broth, use it. Just add a can of water to the broth and boil the bones in it. Skim away any of the white foam on the surface and you can use that broth for egg drop soup, etc.

Do you have "manager's special" meats at your grocery stores up in Canada? If you have time to stop at the grocery store two-three times a week you can buy GOOD meat very cheap that way. You just have to be prepared to cook it within 48 hours of buying it otherwise it will pass the sell-by date. I got a $9 chicken for $4 the other night manager's special.

If you buy that marked down meat, all you need to do is freeze it if you can't use it right away. I've noticed here that they mark meat down the day before the new fliers come out with the new sales --here that means they mark it down on Tuesday's. You can ask your butcher what day they mark theirs down, they'll usually tell you.

Re: Need some IDEAS for cheap

I find here in the UK that a lot of foods with extra fat are cheap sometimes.

For example I brought mince beef today that is nearly 30% fat at 63p for 1lb.

Thats about a dollar US for a pound of ground beef. Not the greatest beef to eat but hey it gets you through!

Try looking at the fatty foods if you're short of a few bucks...People dont like buying fatty foods because they are unpopular. Dont foget people who eat lots of carbs put on weight if they even look at a fatty food!

Finaly this is a recipe from my college days...not the greatest but it keeps you alive:

Tuna and eggs: tin of tuna (drained), 3 eggs, 3tbps cooking oil.

Fry tuna in the oil for a couple of minutes, add the eggs and mash it all together, add pepper and serve as soon as the eggs are cooked. once you get used to it you can use it as a staple to keep you going. Lots of protein in there for a bodybuilder too!

Big bad John, Leader amongst men and baker of cakes.
