  • FED UP. Plz help!

Hi. I am the fool who made a TWO HUNDRED DOLLAR BET 8 weeks ago that I could lose on average 1.5 lbs/week. I have been on Atkins for about 7 1/2 weeks, doing everything as I'm supposed to. I followed induction to the letter. I eat NO processed, high carb foods. I exercise RELIGIOUSLY, to the point where I have now apparently sprained my hip. My body is in a constant state of soreness from walking, jogging, and lifting weights. I have lost, in 7.5 weeks, a grand total of 7.5 lbs, from 167 to 159.5 lb. Yippee skippy. I'll probably lose the bet now because, for whatever reason, I'm not losing. I've tried in the past three weeks to cut calories, but not drastically by any means, and that hasn't helped either. WHO ARE the people who are losing 2+ lbs a week on ANY diet??? I hear if you cut calories drastically, you plateau anyway. Is this true, or do I need to go down to 1000 calories a day? I am very, very fed up. Any information on how to lose at least TWO POUNDS A WEEK FOR THE NEXT THREE WEEKS would be very helpful. Sorry to be ungrateful for Atkins; it's a very satisfying diet, even the low-cal version.

    Hi Kat,

You sound the same as me. I started 8 weeks ago today and had only dropped 7 lbs as of last week. Last week i started the KISS (Keep It Simple Sweetie) version of Atkins eliminating things that are know to cause stalls in people. I eliminated cream, cheese, and bacon. I lost 4 lbs. doing it for 5 days and have dropped another pound since starting back on regular atkins yesterday. Here is the link if you want to give it a try. The worse part of it for me was giving up the cream cause I am a 5 cup of tea drinker. Anyhow, again here is the link:

Good luck if you try it, let us know how you make out.

you could be gaining some muscle, have you lost inches? i'd find it hard to believe nothing is going on with all that excersise. If you don't have a lot to lose your weight loss will be slower too. Maybe you could modify to the bet to include lbs and inches, lol, just a thought

How tall are you both, and how much did you have to lose to start with? These are the 2 things that affect how fast it will go..

But whatever happens with the bet - you will be a big winner anyway because of the pounds you have lost!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

If you MUST win the bet, eat nothing for 24 hours and then go back to STRICT atkins. It is good for your health also to have a short fast like once a week

Not if you are on Atkins it isnt!!

The way of eating we follow does not punish our bodies by stopping giving them nutrition !!

We are supposed to eat at least every 6 hours to keep our blood sugars stable.

Kattana - you havent said how much weight you need to lose in total, so no-one can really say if your goal of losing an average of 2 pounds a week is attainable.

Just keep on following the way of eating you have chosen, continue with your exercise and water intake and see what happens!!

Elizellen is so right (of course!), do NOT fast. It is not good for you not to eat. You will just throw your whole system off that way. Starving yourself is NEVER a good way to lose weight, no amount of money is worth that. Just kee p doing what you are doing, and you will be fine. Good luck!

Sorry if the advice does not fit into this woe, but I have used fasting to kickstart ketosis and it's been working (for me of course).
Don't fast if you don't feel like!

                    Re: FED UP. Plz help!

I think 1000 calories would be to little but you could take a look at them maybe they are outrageous. As long as you do not use this as a liscence to overeat you will be okay though, The weight is coming off you are much closer to goal than most that means it will be slower than otherspeople who lose 4 pounds a week are like me morbidly obese when they start and this was probably a drastic change for them. I have done the kiss diet to break a stall you can have cream and motzrella cheeses on it but it is hard to add foods back in without restalling and you are losing.
Just keep going you are successful with all that exercise you may have to revise your goal to be at a heavier weight, because muscle weighs more than fat so you may have lost quite a few inches.

Not knowing your start weight, how much you have to lose etc, it's difficult to say what's going on. Maybe you bet on something that's just simply not gonna happen for you in a healthy manner. Certainly with all the exercise you're doing, a tapemeasure would benefit you more then numbers on the scale, in my opinion. You could post your exact menu's in the 'review my menu' forum to see if anything can be tweaked I suppose. Sounds like you're doing a great job though!

This may sound strange, but maybe eat a little more and exercise less? With how hard you're working your body may be holding on to pounds for dear life, or you could be gaining alot of muscle. I was watching celebrity fit club yesterday and one of the participants is over 400 lbs. He was having terrible weigh-ins (every two weeks) despite his hard work. Then he all of a sudden lost a bunch. Sometimes it just takes a while before the body will let go. In all he only lost 28 lbs the whole time, but the doctor told him that he lost 60+ in fat and gained 20+ in muscle. I find that pretty amazing! Are you giving yourself a recovery day? My ex-hubby was a p.e teacher and a very accomplished athlete. He told me that rest is just as important as the exercise. Good luck and chin up!

                          Re: FED UP. Plz help!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!! To start, for this bet, I have 9 weeks to go from 167 lb down to 153.5 lbs. That is 1.5 lbs per week, which I always thought I could do if I did not cheat and stuck to my exercise regimen. I didn't consider inches instead of pounds, because I've been exercising, albeit not quite this hard, for some years. But regardless, you all are right: Even at -$200, I will be SO GLAD I stuck it out and lost. I'll be honest here and say that my weekends especially have been out of control for quite a few years now, and making this bet has finally reigned even THEM in. I will be grateful for that regardless of winning or losing. But, I'd still like to see if I can pull off winning. So . . .

This KISS thing is very interesting. I was wondering if my sugar-free Jello and Diet Pepsi might be hurting me a bit, but I never even considered the salami or cheese as being hindrances. I might even try a short fast--I wouldn't mind seeing what would happen with that. The point is, these are all excellent suggestions, which I greatly appreciate. Thank you all SO MUCH for sharing, and SO FAST!

                          Kat

I would try dropping the diet pepsi and sf jello before considering anything like a fast!!

For years I swore that diet soda and items with nutrasweet in them such as SF jello did not cause me any problems...and I did lose last time while continuing the diet soda...all the way to goal

This time I came to a point where DH wanted to try low carb and he doesn't like diet sodas so I gave them up too....OH MY addiction was strong...I looooove diet Mt Dew....But guess what I actually did start to mobilize some pounds and feel better and manage to get my water in when I'm not drinking all that pop.

I actually had a REALLY bad headache the day I consumed a large amount of nutrasweet, ie half a large pack of SF gum, SF jello and SF pudding and sips Minute Maid light after being without Nutrasweet for so long.....I think maybe all along I had a problem with it but didn't know because I never stopped consuming it.

Now I use sweet n low, splenda or stevia supreme but I am considering Nutrasweet and thus DIET MT DEW, DIET cOKE etc...an allergy/reaction.
