  • Here goes or not.....

    How safe are suppositories? How often do some of you use them? I stall if I don't have a BM everyday and my body is recently not following that pattern.
    So I was wondering can they be used like every other day? Thanks

    Your body needs to be able to this on it's own. A suppository is ok for occasional use, but only because you're constipated, not because you think you should be going more. If you are constipated eat more veggies and see if that helps things along. When losing weight your body is using most of what you are eating. There may not be much too release because you are burning up everything. I wouldn't worry about it and I definately wouldn't use suppositories.

      Try eating higher fiber vegetables too. Also try a one of the fiber supplements Dr. Atkins recommended: psyllium husks, flaxseed or wheat bran.

        Where would I buy flaxseed and wheat bran? Also what is the difference between the husks that get mixed in water and the pill form?

          There's really no difference in the pill husks and the stuff you mix in water. It's really a matter of choice, because some people are more comfortable swallowing pills and other would rather they drink the stuff down in a glass of water.

          Flax see and wheat bran can be purchased in supermarkets: look for them in the natural/organic food aisle. I've also seen wheat bran in the cereal aisle and in the baking aisle.

          Just remember, those fibers are "bulk forming" laxatives. That means they work by soaking up water in your intestines and expanding. When your intestines feels that "bulk", it pushes it down stream. If you don't drink an adequate amount of water, the bulk forming fibers can harden up and cause constipation.

          Also these fibers take some time to work. But if you use them and eat the high fiber veggies, you'll be regular.

            I take the psyllium fiber pills every day (3 pills), but make sure you take them with a full glass of water. Are you eating your 3 cups veggies a day? Jicama is very high is fiber, that could help also. Are you in Induction?
            What would we do without it?

                are you drinking enough water and eating your veggies? Try the psyllium husks, they work great and come in pill form.
                What would we do without it?
