Just noticed that the cream cheese I bought (store brand) is 2 carbs per ounce, comparing to less than l carb for the Kraft brand. Boy have I been messing my self up using 4 ounces a day. Just wanted to alert others to check the back of off brands cause they may not be the same.

Re: Cream Cheese carb alert
Went out and replaced all my cream cheese with the Kraft. Not going to make the same mistake twice. Will be spending hours in the grocery checking labels when I shop.

Re: Cream Cheese carb alert
I just checked the cream cheese in my fridge. THe Great Value brand (which I think is Walmart) has 2g carbs & 1g sugars. The Kraft has 1g Carbs & <1g sugars. I had never paid attention to that before. Each for 1oz servings. Thank you for bringing it to our attention Atkid.

Re: Cream Cheese carb alert
hi there! I live in Spain and the Brie I bought today claims to have zilch/0 carbs. and zero sugar......is 60 % fat and you get 200g in packet......is delicious on celery sticks and had some with my gristly greasy pork chops, heh heh!!!
slipped a wee bit on Sunday as had ppl round for dinner , but the fish and mayonnaise and lettuce and prawns was excellent and allowed!! Just went a bit overboard with my white wine..........next day paid the price for that and am now back to normal with my tea infusions , the raspberry one was a success at end of illicit meal with friends!
Nice to chat with you all or rather just read all your blogs - it's so encouraging, and now I don't have these awful (yuch) pink sweat rashes under bra.......puke!
So am feeling very cheerful and think Dr. Atkins is a super-hero for all us people who suffer the ridicule of shop assistants etc. as they don't have our sizes, bla bla bla........and we don't have that in YOUR size sort of attitude........
We will have the last laugh, ok folks

Re: Cream Cheese carb alert
Whipped cream cheese has less carbs per serving, but that's because it's whipped and not so firmly "packed" as regular cream cheese. I like the whipped ones better!!

Re: Cream Cheese carb alert
Atkid I too noticed this...I am a frugal/deal getting bargain shopper but Kroger brand and Walmart brand cream cheese is 2 carbs per oz and Philly brand 1 carb, Philly reduced fat is <1 carb so I get this often, I add enough fat to my diet and generally exceed the % recommended...mmm fat I love butter and bacon etc..
I would rather spend more $$$ and get the name brand product with half the carbs!!!! And I always get the item thats cheaper but not in this case!!!

Re: Cream Cheese carb alert
What I don't get is all the concern over the cheese limit at all.
Whatever the phase, why can't you have as much as you want to get the fat% right, so long as the carbs are accounted and adjusted for? Why is it limited to 4 oz during induction? If I want 6oz = 6-12 g carbs (depending on the label), wouldn't it be ok, IF I cut back on the spices, avocado, or "carb-strength" of my veggies?~Susan

Not if you are doing Atkins induction 'by the book' (DANDR 2002)!!Originally posted by boonie stomperWhat I don't get is all the concern over the cheese limit at all.

Dr Atkins set that 3-4 ounces limit and told us to count one carb for each ounce no matter what the actual count is!
I have noticed many people posting that if they eat a lot of cheese that their weightloss stops - so maybe he set the limit to help that percentage of us who will have problems with it!Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Cream Cheese carb alert
I have found the exact opposite with philadelphia cream cheese and 'own brand' cream cheese!
Waitrose's cream cheese has 1.5 grams of carbs per 100 grams (3.5 ounces) making it less than 0.5 carbs per ounce!
But I still counted each ounce as one carb for induction!Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
