  • Getting Along

I have been reading a few threads and its amazing how defensive some posters are..

Listen, we are all here for the same reason and sometime's its hard to hear the truth. The fact is the Moderators are the success stories, they should be our inspiration.

As a newbie myself its hard to hear the cold hard truth but its to our benefit..
Please listen with an open mind and respect everyone on this board.

We all need a dose of tough love and reality.....

Exactly. I, too, am surprised when I see someone get defensive when no offense was intended. If you post a question on a public board, you get replies. The fact that a response is not what one prefers to hear doesn't mean it's ill-willed or wrong.

I am so glad that I found the ADBB- the resources are priceless! Not to mention many people here are knowlegable and supportive.

Thanks for posting this thread. I think it is important to remember that we all have each other's best interests at heart. I've never met anyone on this board, particularly the "old timers," who has been anything less than pleasant, informative, and supportive.

            Re: Getting Along

Yeah, what is up with all the defensiveness? I'm surprised that some people ask a question and then say they don't want it answered...

There's a wealth of support here if we can all act patiently and listen with open ears.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

My favorite is when someone will say at the beginning of their post "now I know this is going to be controversial or I know this will cause a argument". Don't post it then MORONS.

                  Re: Getting Along

I am of the attitude "to each his/her own." I've read a few threads lately that made me want to leave the board just because of all the defensiveness AND some of the responses to it. I don't need this crap on a message board that I come to for knowledge, encouragement and support. I'm not leaving though because this truly is a great place to be, even if just to read. Now when I see those threads, I may or may not read them (depending on the topic) and I usually roll my eyes and move along.

I think (and this is just one opinion of many), if you want to do Atkins you have to read the book and do it like the doctor ordered, otherwise it's not exactly Atkins, but just another low carb diet. I love that so many people are here that offer lots of advice and tell of their own experiences and how different foods affect them. I need that...not the hissy fits and the rudeness.

(Sorry if I offend anyone. It's not intended).

                    Re: Getting Along

I never want to come across rude. I so believe in Atkins THE WAY IT WAS WRITTEN and sometimes my rigidness could be perceived as rudeness .. I never apologize for speaking the truth .. because I do it with the intention to HELP.

I love ADBB because the moderators/administrators LIVE Atkins .. they encourage, inspire and motivate without pussy-footing around.

I am privileged to be here and hope that I serve as an inspiration to those who truly want to succeed.

I think I was a little harsh in a few posts earlier and admitted so, and i know how hard it is when you have never tested your own willpower before, but I get the frustration too. Support and tough love.

This is one of the first threads i read when I got here:

At ADBB we’re not here to suck the snot and joy out of your life. We’re here to give it back (well, not the snot--you know what I mean). And while we’re tough about this way of eating, we have to be. If we tell you to do your thing, it undoes any good thing we’ve ever tried to tell you to do prior to that or following that.

If we tell you that cheating on occasion is all right because eh, that’s life, we’re saying to the alcoholic that a drink on occasion is ok.

We’re telling the gambler to go ahead and place that one bet…just this time. It’ll be ok.
We’re telling the carb addict that old behavior will not beget more old behavior… just this once.
There are so many people here who have the wisdom and experience, and share it. I'm still new to this woe, but like many have said, we're all free to do what we please, but don't be surprised if I don't say it's okay.

                          Re: Getting Along

There was a motto that ADBB had when it was first formed and it was from Brook. I think it is one of the BEST things we can use here at ADBB.
HARD ON IDEAS and SOFT ON PEOPLE.

I have seen many posters come here with ideas and thoughts on Atkins. Many come with preconceived notions (that was me!) and of course the "My Uncle Fred's cousin John's brother did Atkins and died." It is our mission here to teach people the proper way to do Atkins according to Dr. Atkins himself. The funny thing is alot of the people who came here and were willing to embrace change after reading and learning are some of our biggest success stories.

So we need to always keep in mind the "hard on ideas and soft on people!!" Also, always to agree to disagree and respect each other.
