  • Can someone explain ketosis and weight loss??

I am in week 3 and have lost 10 lbs so far. 9 in the first 2 weeks and only 1 in the past week. I am not doing anything differently.. My pee stick is still in the moderate color..

What am I doing wrong. No alcohol, yes to the veggies and under 20 carb gms per day..
If my ketostick is still in the moderate color shouldn't I be shedding fat??

Thanks so much for your help..

You're still losing so you're not doing anything wrong. The 9 you lost in the first week is made up of some water weight. You could be retaining water, not drinking enough water, TOM...there are many variables.

      Hi and welcome.

      A few things....

      1. Weight loss might not be consistent. That is, you might not lose the same number of pounds and inches every week. Also, after the first 14 days of this Diet, some folks experience a weight loss slow down or a complete stop. In a video, Dr. Atkins explained this as your body balancing itself because you lost a relatively large amount of weight in a short span of time. Once your body adjusts, you'll begin to lose weight.

      2. Ketones are produced when fat is broken down by your body. This is any fat: your body fat or the fat you've eaten with your meal.

      3. The ketostix. While they indicate that fat is being broken down, they don't tell you if that fat was from the fat you are eating or the fat on your thighs. Moreover, the color of the ketostix isn't really indicative of the amount of weight you will lose/have lost. Your degree of hydration may affect the color of the stix.

      4. Measuring fat loss. Dr. Atkins recommended we keep track of this 2 ways: by weighing ourselves on the scale and by keeping track of our measurements. He wrote that the loss of inches was indicative of the loss of body fat because it demonstrated the fat emptying from your cells. I lose inches faster than I lose pounds. In fact, I went through several months without losing pounds, but I lost 3 dress sizes. So if you haven't been measuring, start doing so now.
