  • goal weight

I am female and about 5 foot 8 inches tall. I have a large frame and when I used to be in shape a lot of muscle. I set a goal weight of 160lbs. I was just wondering if this is good or if anyone with a simialr body has the same of different goals as me. I know in the book it says be realistic but don't settle for pleasently plump. I was wondering if it should be lower? Thanks!

You might also want to go by clothing size and how you look rather than how much you weigh.

I've found that I'm heavier than I look (which is completely fine with me!)

      Re: goal weight

Hi, I looked the weight ranges up and according to the US government, a desirable weight range for someone who is 5'8" is 125-164 for someone who is 19 to 34 years old and 138-178 for someone over 35. It just says adults so I suppose the upper ranges would be for men.
The Weight Watchers site says that the range is between 131 and 164.
I am 5'7", big boned and 160 on me is a nice weight for me so at 5'8" it would look great on you but if I were you, I would check with my doctor to make sure.
      I hope that helped.

Why not go by the general rule of 100 lbs. for 5 ft. and 5 lbs. for each inch over 100 lbs.

        100 + (5 x = 140 and an additional 10 lb. for being bigger boned which would = 150.

My sister in law is 5'8 and she looks good at 148.

          Re: goal weight

Hello! I'm 5'11" and a Norwegian Valkryie! I would love to be 160 pounds, but I've set my goal at 170. In reality, I will get to 180 and see how I feel and look, then take it in 5 pound increments from there. I think it is far more important to feel good and look good than to be concerned about the numbers on the scale. Now if I could just get my 27" waist back, I would be thrilled!

Set a fair goal and then take it from there. Don't obsess on the scale. Take measurements. See how you feel. I guess that's my advice!!

          Good lock,

              Hi!
I'm 5'7" and my goal was 120.... I am down to 126 right now.....but it does not look like 6 pounds will get me to my desired body shape.... I was 119 several years ago and looked good... but right now I still have inches to lose on my waist and abs..... flab!

we'll see..... maybe my ideal weight at my age might be 115.... as I am small boned....

                Re: goal weight

You may be surprised at least at little at what the last 6 pounds does. I noticed that when I went from 136 to 127 I lost all that weight on my lower tummy where no flab had budged in all my pounds lost prior to that. Of course I did originally set goal at 140 then lower it to 136 then decided 130 is better for me. I am 5'4" medium frame and at 130 I wore some size 6 in jeans.

                  Re: goal weight

I'm 5'8 and very large boned (overly curvy hips, the whole wrist-thumb-index finger trick, everything!) and the last time I visited my doctor he said that 145 was ideal for my frame. I hope that helps!

Oh, and at 145 I find that I'm a medium. A size ten for pants and six or eight for tops.
