  • I really need help getting back on track

I've gained 10 lbs, I cant eat properly, and I feel completely unmotivated. I was hospitalized twice last week with a severe chest infection, and havent been able to feed myself properly, now I'm back home, I just cant do it.

I've struggled through the day forcing (and I mean forcing) myself to eat properly, then I go and blow it all by giving in by late afternoon!

I'm not so worried about the 10lb gain, yes, it's a step back, but I couldnt do anything about food while in hospital.

I just need to find the key to getting back online. Should I revert to Induction and...I'd say force myself but I cant! This is frustrating, I really need some kind words of advice.

I think you should Just Pick up where you left off. I am sorry you were sick and I really hope you are feeling better, you body needs to heal right now so I really don't think going on induction right now would be in your best interests. Eat lots of veggies and try to get back to where you were after a few days you will feel a whole lot better. YOU CAN DO IT STEPH!!!!! Try to have lots of legal stuff you can snack on and eat lots of when the afternoon hits Fatty stuff so you feel full.

I know you can do it Steph I know it don't let being sick be your excuse You are doing sooo awesome and I would hate for you to fall back too far. Lift that head up smile and move forward YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

I think Sarah gave you the perfect advise, do eat according to the plan, maybe not exactly measure everything, but ONLY eat allowed foods, so you get back on track that way and then after you are healed you can start doing it exactly according to the rules again, maybe even then go back on induction for some days to cleans yourself totally, but not right now, cause you really need to bounce back first from having been ill.
You can do it girl, I know for sure !!!!!!

I understand completely what you are going through and I know it is awful and frustrating! If you can just get a clean day or two behind you, you will be able to resist the temptation to fall off so much more. I think we rationalize this too easily once we have been off-plan. Like you think - what's one more meal/day/week?? It is awful! I think it is way worse than when you first start because you aren't full of the awe that comes to new atkineers. Just do anything, and I mean anything, you can to avoid busting it at the end of the day. Really concentrate on getting that first day or two behind you. Look at old photos and compare them to new ones. Call a supportive friend. Get on the board and chat us up...whatever! You took a good step by posting this. It really helped me when I did that!

Here's a hug! You can do it, it just isn't very easy!

You caught it soon enough, 10lbs isn't THAT bad, some gain 20 and 30 when they fall. You had no control over what happened at the hospital but you have control now. YOU are in the drivers seat Steph, where you gonna take it? Look at all your cute little clothes, look at fat pictures! I carry one with me in my purse and pull it out all day at work, it sits on the counter, staring me in the face. I have a fat photo on my fridge, one in my car visor and I have a pair of goal jeans on a hanger out in the open. Try to psyche yourself up! Look how far you've come!! don't backslide!! YOU ROCK! YOU'RE HOT! and YOU CAN DO THIS!!

Re: I really need help getting back on track

You have to get excited about the foods you can eat guilt-free on Atkins instead of getting excited (at least minorly so) about those foods that you're going to blow it on.

Bacon! Eggs! Steak! Cheese! Salads smothered in dressing! CHEESECAKE!!

If this means getting back on the wagon by eating some foods that aren't necessarily Induction friendly or are higher up the rungs, that's ok. Just get excited about what you can do without worrying. Once you're back on track you can be more disciplined with yourself; it's just the transition period that's really hard.

If you are no longer in ketosis, you should do induction until you are and then continue where you left off.

I'm sorry you're going through rough times but you've done this in the past and you can do it again.

Re: I really need help getting back on track

I would suggest getting back in control of your eating. For me, that would be easiest to drop into Induction-style eating to get back ketosis, get the benefit of the appetite supression, and therefore be assisted in restarting all the good habits again. Ultimately, when you are in control and the cravings are gone, you should go back to the stage you are at before the illness. If you don't need that helping hand, you can certainly go with the phase you were in. It's up to you, but I know you can do it.

What they all said, Steph! I know you can get back on track.

Plan your eating and prepare so you have plenty of induction-friendly snacks available for whenever you feel like slipping off the Atkins path.
Oh - and drink your water too!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: I really need help getting back on track

I agree that you should get back to induction with lots of high fat items for a few days to bring back ketosis and get your body furnace back in gear.

Other than your eating its your head you have to deal with. Take it from someone who went off and off and off and before she knew it she had gained much more than 10# back .................... and then spent much time kicking herself about it
                        .
                        1. Look at your before and during pix.......

                        2. Really feel your clothes for a day or 2.

                        3. If you have an older relative with medical conditions because of his or her weight (My parents both have diabetes/high blood pressure etc), see what it does to them.

                        4. Rememer, you are worth a few days of white knuckling your way back into ketosis and clean those carbs out of your system and it will be smooth sailing for you once again.

                        5. Drink lots of water and then some!

You can do it. Come here a lot and vent all you want to get thru. There are lots of people around all day long to help you thru.

I gain weight when I'm on antibiotics. It will probably come off really fast after you start feeling better and eating better. I fell off the wagon for a week last month. Not bad, but enough to give me troubles. I suggest staying as active as possible for a few days. When you don't have time to snack it helps. I even sat on my hands a couple of times when I was tempted to go get something sugary. LOL Keep thinking about how good you feel when you are eating on plan. You can do this Steph! Don't let those sugar demons drag you down.

Thank you so much everyone! I've tried really hard, slipped up a little bit today, but I'm doing better and resisting the temptation!
I still don't feel much like standing around cooking, and the bread and easy carb meals are looking like such a great option right now, but I've made it through the day at least.

The water I'm still doing well on, it was the only thing I WAS able to keep down for the last week, so I've even got all the diet soda out of my system with no cravings.

I'll be updating on my progress in my journal if anyone wants to see day by day.

And once again, thank you all! You have no idea how much I appreciate your help right now Everyone around me is just telling me "Eat this, you can go back to your Atkins when you're better" but I can't. I can't let it get too out of hand!
