  • major craving , help!

Today is my friend's birthday and she brought chocolate easter eggs to work and now I can't stop thinking about having some candy. I can't stop thinking about the candy machine here at work.
I allready ate my hard boiled eggs which I brought as snacks , but I doesn't seem to stop the need for sweet.
What can I do , it's only my second day of induction and I don't want to blow it all.

Just keep saying no. And when you are tempted, either take a big chug of water or get up and walk around stretching your legs.

At the end of the day when you have resisted, you are going to be so so proud of yourself.

      Hi Elke

I'm on my 4th week of atkins - and I too have a very very bad sweet-tooth!!

I found that having the cream cheese mixed with a teaspoon or two of splenda seemed to do the trick - it tastes like the frosting from carrot cake! Plus I sometimes add a little cocoa powder - mmm - with it being so rich you dont need much to take the craving away!

Or another alternative is rhubarb - I have one cup of rhubarb cooked in the microwave and then sprinkled with splenda - that always cures my sweet-tooth!

Good luck - and try to resist - you'll be so happy you did at the end of your induction!

        Re: major craving , help!

thanks for your help guys , but unfortunately it came too late

I had 4 little eggs , a bag of potatoe chips and 5 (five!) candy bars.
I feel like crying , yesterday went so well and now i messed it all up. Worst thing about it is that i start thinking I can't do it at all.
Tonight I have salmon and green beans planned , so at least I'll have a healthy dinner.
Tomorrow i want to make a fresh start , and I'll make sure to bring more snacks to work with me.

Elke, dont wait for tomorrow. Jump straight back on the wagon now. There is no time like the present.

I am here for you. Be kind to yourself, dont beat yourself up to much, just learn from your mistakes and move on.

          You can do it.

This is a great suggestion! I love rhubarb and eat it almost every day, it's also an induction veggie so it would count towards your veggies for the day.

                Re: major craving , help!

Good for you for getting right back on plan, Elke!

The first few weeks are hard as we still have our cravings and habits to cope with. Make sure you have many more snacks handy than you think you could possibly want to eat, so every time you get that 'need' to eat something sweet you can first take a long drink of water then if necessary eat a legal snack.

We need to train our bodies to get used to eating somehting without sugar when it craves for it. Many people find that eating only savoury snacks at these times helps kill their sugar monster - or at least make it shut up - rather than eating a splenda-sweetened snack.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                  Re: major craving , help!

We are all victims of pretty paper and crazy marketing schemes.

All that candy just made me fat.

I don't think it is realistic to never have a sweet, but make them carb friendly treats. Lots of wonderful recipe sites online, many of them induction friendly.

Substitute...Try new recipes....Research! We all do it.

Bring a bowl of healthy snacks to work. As you are munching on your crunch radishes, peppers, jicama and cucumber, declare to yourself that you love yourself enough to eat healthy. Yes, even on holidays.

L-Glutamine, you can find it at your health food store, miracle thing for me, stops sugar and carbage cravings cold. Even at PMS time, I'm a believer, and take 2 per day. You might want to try this. It REALLY works!

I have heard of eating a spoon of mayo to quell a sweet craving. Haven't tried it yet, but will definitely report back when I do. If you decide to try it the next time let us know if it works.
