  • I met a doc who suggested Atkins!

Are you surprised? Well I was!
Actually it's not a "real" doctor's office, but some kind of natural healing center I went with my friend to see what's all that about (and to book a massage). The therapist started talking to my friend about this and that, therapies, her food allergies, her weight etc and all of sudden the therapist said - have you ever heard of atkins kind of eating? That could be so good for your waistline if done properly. Properly meant eating meat with vegetables, cheese in moderation and eaten alone, some other aspects (food combining). But generally I was really surprised because I thought they would suggest vegan or raw food etc

I am not surprised 3 years ago our Cardiology dept the RN's and Dr's all tried Atkins and have lost and kept off a lot of weight!!!...my girlfriend (ond of the RN's) lost 80lbs and has kept it off for 2 years now ..
there are a lot of people in healthcare including me that are doing either Atkins or other lower carb diets like... that other one what's its name..oh yeah South Beach... and to be honest the people doing Atkins that I know are and have done and been doing much better...but shhhhhh I don't want to seem too
    biased about Atkins or anything!!!

I'm not really that surprised either. As my Doctor is pro Atkins also. Just as long as it is done correctly.

But, Moonwish, Its always nice to know that there are others out there that feel the same.

LOL I'm sure it has done good work on my waistline as well!

The point there was my friend isn't really overweight, but she has about 10 lbs or so of fat around her waistline and this isn't going away and everyone says it's a great risk for health to have such deposit there. and the therapist said lowcarb is the best way to get your waist back.

I was mostly surprised because I had a vision of those all-natural-folks as generally vegans... that's why...

And in this country... atkins is almost considered a crime today (well, kinda...)

My family doctor and gynecologist are both on Atkins. My family doc has kept the weight off for about 3 years now and my gynecologist has been on for over 10 years.

And you know how long it took everyone to figure out that the world is actually round?? lol It will happen. One day the world will wake up and say "oh how stupid could we be - of course Atkins is the only way that makes sense." Yay for doctors who've seen the light.

I am and always have been sort of an earth muffin type ..wheat germ mama whatever

and to be honest I do not eat a lot of meat at all

with Atkins I eat fresh foods ...try to do organic when it is possible....eat only whole grains now ..(well except that cake on my birthday :P) and try to buy hormone free meat

I also believe in alternative medicine while I am a western medicine nurse ...I practice my piece wholistically ...

but I know what you mean...

the healthfood stores I frequent all sell meat now ...

Being a vegan is ok but it is so limiting that the foods do not seem to capture people for long periods...so even the die hards I know eat lacto ovo now to defeat the boring diet they tried to be on....

My Doctor - a Senior Medical Officer in the british Army - said to me

                        "Do Atkins. It works."

A few months on even he could not believe the reults. He had never seen someone's blood pressure come down so far so fast.
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
                        he said, 'Don't count calories.'

Atkins makes exercise mandatory - I took up cycling - see last pics at 203lb.

Yes, and I've finally found a doctor who thinks it's great! When I told him I'd lost 28kgs in 6 months following Atkins, and how my blood pressure had come down, he said just keep on doing what you're doing. H has given me the slip for a cholesterol test so when I gat a car again (insurance cheque this week, I hope!) I'll drop in one morning on the way to work and get it done. Keep you all posted.

My doctor says its "THE ONLY WAY" ..

Not only that, he tells his patients with high cholesterol to use flush-free niacin to avoid the STATIN drugs!

I think the medical professionals are coming around as more of successful Atkineers keep proving what a healthy way of eating it is. It is soooo hard to argue with success or to say to someone who dropped his cholesterol by almost a third that it is hurting or blocking his arteries. Time will prove this WOE out.
