  • Holidays are so much more

Every holiday we read posts about how hard it is to refrain from eating the Halloween candy, Christmas cookies, and the Easter chocolates. Yeah, those are things that used to be a big part of our holiday celebrations. USED to be. That is the key word.

However, why not create NEW and IMPROVED ways to make our holidays special? Let's think of Easter in the spiritual content that it was meant to be. Let's experiment with new recipes and create traditions that we can incorporate into our new positive life-styles? Instead of dreading the holidays and not being able to participate in the old way of eating -

Make mock potato recipes. Use the cauliflower (it really is delicious and if you use it in salad, it is so close to potato that nobody will mind.). Make your ham, but without the brown sugar coat. Make egg dishes, make an Atkins friendly dessert to go with your meal. Make it a challenge to create a meal that will awe your family and friends.

We need to all put positive energy into creating plans that will agree with our new life-styles. The holidays are very special times. We are very special. We owe it to ourselves to take the time to do this!

    I so agree.

Holidays are special NOT because of the foods. They are special because they *are* special days that we celebrate together with family and friends. Its the company we keep that makes our lives special. And that includes the company of friends I have on this board. Even though I've yet to meet most of you, I feel like I've always known you. We've shared our personal struggles and achievements, our failures and our successes. We've offered each other advice, support and encouragement. We've given of ourselves to each other .. and we're closer because of it.

I thank Tom, Bren, Kent, Rich and the rest of the administrator/moderator team. Without you guys and how much you give of yourselves and your time, we wouldn't have each other lean on.

There are so many great examples on this board of people who are truly committed to Atkins as their lifestyle. Myself included! Thank you to each person who has touched my life in ways you don't even know!!

Dr. Atkins would be so proud of this board and the tremendous people on it!

Although quiet (lurking) most times, I have to come out to say a word of thanks for this thread, and all those who contribute to it. This is my second consecutive Easter living as an Atkineer. I am sorry to say , I slipped last year. This time around, thanks to the support, information and safety of this place (and the posters who provide it), I had no difficulty this time around. I'm losing slowly, but steadily - and okay with the progress. In no big hurry, since I think this place has finally let the "lifestyle" mindset take hold.

Thanks to the fabulous contributors on this board, I am happier, healthier, and feeling for the first time that I am in control of my cravings and what I put in my body. Happy Easter, everyone.

I have to say thank you, dreamof145, for posting this thread. This is so important to remember! Holidays are not all about food! You put into words something that has been on my mind for a long time. Thanks.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.
