  • Conquering cravings...a place to share

Whether you're new to Atkins or have been on this WOL for years...I thought it would be encouraging to share stories, about successfully resisting cravings for the "bad" carbs like cake, cookies etc. Maybe even how you set your mind up to do it, or how you accomplish it.

    I'll go first:

Firstly, a 100% success: Cookies- don't eat them, don't want them anymore. I just interpret them as junk.

Now for another-cupcakes. I got hubby some Easter cupcakes (he was very ill) to cheer him up a bit. Not the best food, but I love to spoil him him presents They were chocolate with big puffy vanilla frosting on top They looked soooo good...it was very tormenting.

But I didn't eat any! I wouldn't call it a 100% success because, compared with cookies, I actually wanted the cupcakes. BUT, my willpower remained strong, especially after falling off the wagon a few times and remembering the consequences!!

Most evenings after dinner my boyfriend sits next to me on the sofa eating Toll House cookie dough straight out of a Costco-size 5-lb tub. Every night I fight the craving to dip a spoon in there and have some, too ... so I log on to ADBB instead! So far, not a single bite.

I cook pasta regularly for my family. I cook them potatoes. I watch them eat it. I watch them eat pizza, cakes and ice cream. Atkins isn't easy to do in Italy, where carbs reign supreme. But so far so good. I keep my willpower stoked by reading and posting here on ADBB... and by remembering how it felt to be... umm... pleasantly upholstered. (ok then, way more than pleasantly upholstered!!!)

Very occasionally, if I make a special pasta sauce, I'll have a small portion of Dreamfields low carb pasta, but not very often as I don't really know how they do what they do to make it so good but low carb! Lol.

All of the above for me, although Betty, I could never stand Peeps. *shudders* I'm at work with a big basket of chocolate eggs on my desk for clients and I really couldn't care less. Woohoo!

My Easter weakness used to be the malted choco Robin Eggs! I'd buy a bag and eat them half bags at a time (or more!) But usually I got sick of them after 1 or 2 bags...LOL.

You guys are gonna think I'm nuts, but I did cheat on Easter. I had 1/2 a cup of cream style corn. I turned down the key lime pie and all the other wonderful treats...and splurged on corn. I reasoned that if I was going to have carbs, that had the lowest impact. Turns out, then I didn't have near the guilt that I normally would have. I actually surprised myself, because after the corn, I was satisfied.

Normally, it would have been, well, I've already had one piece of pie, I guess 5 more pieces won't make a difference. A few more sneaks later, and it becomes again, no more than 6, 7's the limit, 8 is seriuosly where I'm going to draw the line.......2 hours later the pie plate is clean and I'm feeling guilty!

1/2 a cup of corn kept me in check. WIERD!!!
