  • bacholorette party....alcohol..?

tomorrow is my sister's bacholoretter party...and i know alcohol is a big no-no BUT..............i don't know what to do because she hasn't drank with me since I turned 21 because she was pregnant and she's gung-ho on partying with me for the first time...

what should i do? i know she will be on my butt about it all night if i don't drink...would a vodka or rum shot be ok for just 1 day?? should i just stick with induction for longer after the party??...

Since your sis is going to drink, why not look out for her and be the designated driver? We've hand a slew of drunk driving accidents in my area lately, it would be a pity if you and your sister became a statistic.

Does she only want your company if you are drunk? lol Tell her you are trying to improve your health so you can be around for her for a long time. As Megs says, you can let her party on and you can make sure you both get home okay. Sounds like a plan to me.

She's not going to listen to you??? I think you could become deaf too, couldn't you? "What? I can't hear you sis....this club soda is making a lot of fizzy noise in my head." But seriously. There are people who decide to have a drink or two with the understanding that it will temporarily slow down the weight loss, since your body will burn the alcohol instead of the fat. Then there's the temptation to eat junky carbs when drinking. You have to make your own decision. As long as it's your decision and not your sister's. Kay? I'm sure you'll have a good time at the party either way.

I agree. Ultimately the decision is yours. You alone control what you put in your mouth. Make a decision that's right for you!

Shin - This is going to be a very unpopular opinion in here, but I'm trying to picture myself not letting loose with my sis on her bachelorette night... um... can't see myself passing it up. So, if you're deciding to drink, I would stick with the vodka/diet mixers, since I have never had any difficulties with these (scale-wise, anyway)... My fave for such occasions is vodka and crystal light, since there are fruity flavours available. I can't give you a carb quote on the vodka, but I have always been under the impression that it is a zero count, or close enough for my purposes.

(OMG! Not only is Laker advocating alcohol, but aspertame?! Where does this girl get her nerve?) Okay, everyone *wincing*. I've braced myself. Fire at will.

Hmmm. I'm not so sure I'd go with a vodka mixed anything. I find low car beers - despite the label - are really not helpful. I find wine - despite the good benefits and relatively low car content - to be a problem becuase it is soooo easy to drink to much of it.

When I have a drink and I'm not on induction, I personally have a scotch on the rocks with a lot of ice. Here's my rational. Being pure alcohol, there's really no gylcemic effect. Secondly, I put in a lot of rocks because I can carry it around and nurse it. Finally, the good doctor's book says that alcohol like this doesn't throw you out of ketosis, but delays weight loss while it is in your system. Frankly, it's not the worst. My issue is - fine, if rare and moderate.

                Things to avoid:

                Mixers of any sort. Nightmarish.

Too much booze - tying one on can't be a good thing and will derail you. The other REALLY BAD thing is that even with moderate drinking, one can absent mindedly eat all the things that are at a party - chips, etc.

Going Hungry. Make sure you've eaten very well beforehand. If you don't know what's there - grab a steak or something prior to going.

Finally, grab water whenever you can. Put icecubes back in your glass. That's one advantage of drinking "anything" on the rocks. You can keep grabbing ice cubes so no one "refreshes" you.

                Just some thoughts.

                  Re: bacholorette party....alcohol..?

I have a question for someone who has been on atkins for awhile. I started atkins on april 3rd at 5'6 169 pounds. Today is april 21st and i weigh in st 154. SO i have lost about 15 pounds and inches. But I am stalled!!!! I want to be down to 145 for my wedding on May 6th and I only have 15 more days. Is this possible to achieve. I have NEVER cheated on the diet and am in extended induction. I eat 2 small meals a day and it ussually is maybe a few nuts and seafood. Could my problem be not drinking water????? I judt thought water was to fill you up, but i dont have an appetite. Should I be drinking water instead of Diet pepsi? And if so why????? PLEASE HELP.

                    Re: bacholorette party....alcohol..?

LaVonna - Drink more WATER WATER WATER. Ditch the diet pepsi, and you will definately see a difference! It's easy to forget that 0 carbs does not equal 0 sodium. Too much diet pop slows me down.

On to the drinking...PARTY!!! The bachelorette party will be fun if you drink or not! I personally don't think I'd have the will power not to get crazy with my "sister" (but that's only imaginary, cuz mom & dad never came through on that birthday wish!!!) Anywho, back on topic. I'm assuming there's a correlation between bachelorette party, and starting atkins last week. I'm guessing there's a wedding outfit you're working on somewhere in this scenareo. I personally have never gained weight from either vodka mixers, jack & diet coke, or seagrams 7 & diet. BUT....I have normally notice a stall too. So, personally, if I were you, and was only 1 week into it, I'd have to pass on the liquor at the bach party for the sake of looking super hot at the wedding. Just my 2 cents. Either way, hope you have a blast!!! If you do drink, DON"T LET YOURSELF SPLURGE ON CARBS. That gets hard when you're standing in front of your fridge at 2:30am staring at _________ (you fill in the blank) Either way, its gonna be hard - danged if you do....danged if you dont!

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Order a Mike's Light it low in carbs. It's a hard lemonade, very tasty too.

ok well i couldn't completely hold back on the booze...ok, i couldn't hold back at all..but everything i drank was 0 carbs-tequila & snakebites. and i WAS tempted with carbs after we left the club. they all stopped at Taco Bell and stuffed their faces while i sat there drooling and cursing at them but even though i drank, i don't feel guilty because i had a BlasT! i can accept if my weight loss stalls and im no longer on "clean" induction. But , now that that's over with, I am vowing not to drink anything until alcohol rung!

Her wedding is on May 6th as well, and I hope I look a lot better in the bridesmaid dress than I did 3 weeks ago!

When I first tried Atkins, I lost over two stone, it was great. I know it's not part of the diet, but I drank a fair amount once a week. Even managed to go on a weekend rugby tour, and still kept losing. I mainly drank scotch and soda to be honest though, but a few vodka and diet cokes didn't do me any harm. I think different people will react differently to booze.

Michelob do a decent beer with about 2 and a half carbs per bottle.

For those in the UK, a tray of Doner Kebab meat with Mayo and salad goes down fine when you're bladdered.
