  • I had to bake cookies

There I was alone in the kitchen with the fixings to make cookies for my husband *his request of course*.

I mixed the batter. scooped the dough onto the cookie sheets and watched the oven carefully. 14 minutes later presto White chunk macadamia nut cookies.

Macadamia nuts.. I thought to myself. Well Gee its got those nuts, Its on my list. YA baby lets have one. Wait.... theres sugar, flour and all kinds of nasty things in that warm cookie I wanted so badly.

Ive not cheated once in 4 weeks now. But cookies were hot & fresh... a total weekness.

So as much as I wanted/needed/one.. I put the fresh baked cookies on a plate took them to my husband with my mouth full of Bacon!

    Cheers, Ivy

Good for you for resisting temptation! Bacon is just the kind of thing to fend off cravings! Nice and fatty!

        Ivy. I feel your pain.

I sit here reading your post, smelling the cholcolate birthday cake (and cupcakes) I have just taken out of the oven. I feel like some kind of tortured saint; delighted with myself for not cheating, and supernaturally strong for avoiding the impulse to just dig in. Good for you. I'm sure our resistance to temptation will pay off for us ten-fold!

Re: I had to bake cookies

I know this sounds wierd, but when I have to do things like this, it helps me. I feel so good about myself when I don't eat it. I make things all the time that I am not supposed to eat. I love to cook, bake, etc. I have such an accomplished feeling when I go through all of that with out so much as licking a finger. My friend says she doesn't see how I have that much willpower. But, it teaches me how to be strong. That it is just food, not my life. Not something to rule me. Not something that I have to have. Not something that has to be me. It is something that I can choose. I can still be around it. I can still have it in my house and not have it. Even if I do get the temptation for it, it is my choice to say no. And I do. Granted, when I make this stuff I try to take it elsewhere no because of me, but because I rather my family not eat it because I know it isn't healthy. But cooking in itself is a healing task to me.

Re: I had to bake cookies

I definitely commend you for being strong. I have that problem here at work. We have staff meetings as well as birthday parties once a month. Each time there is the overload of carb-ridden foods. Just yesterday I stayed away from our lunchroom where the b-day party is held because they had ice cream cake, cookies and cream at that. My favorite. So I did really well, when a coworker came with the cake and said it's soooooooooo good. Here I am doing well knowing that I didn't have to go downstairs, then she comes up with cake. I made it through because I refuse to give 1 pound of the 18.5 I've lost thus far...and it's been almost three weeks no cheating.

Re: I had to bake cookies

I know how hard that was for you, even with the bacon!! I had to make brownies Friday for a church thing for my DD. She brought home most of them and they sat there most of the weekend until I said, "Would somebody please eat these befor I DO?"

Next time I'm asked to make something I'm gonna have to try one of those low-carb mixes, but I'm afraid of portion control with them, cuz theoretically I "can" eat them.....

You did GOOD!!! Keep it up!

Thank you for all your support and love. It is hard. While the goal is worth it, its harder than I thought it would be to give up things I loved.

I tried pork rines. Eww um no, not for me haha

And Congratulations to all of you that also have to go through making sweets for others. I wonder when the urge to stuff them in your mouth will end hahah

                      Hugs, Ivy

Good for you! I will only make cookies for my kids if it something that I don't like much. Cookies are my biggest weakness.

I'm also a baker at the beck and call of my boyfriend's family, so I know this will be one of my struggles too. Congrat's on being so firm and not giving in! Chrisie's post will really help remind me of my goals as well!

Last night I went over to my friend's friends' house. I ended up getting "voluntold" (and mostly volunteered since I know I'm the best baker in the house) to make triple chocolate cupcakes. I have a lot of weaknesses, chocolate being one of them, but I had eaten a large helping of tuna cassarole as well as mixed veggies before I got there, I was having fun with friends, and it didn't even occur to me nor did I want to eat one. I licked a little bit of batter off my hand but that's it. Trust me, if my urge to eat goes away yours will too!!

I have some tough love for you.
You did not have to bake cookies. Thats ridiculous.
People need air and water and healthy food. No one
                              has to have cookies.

I find myself wondering why you are sabotaging yourself this way? Love yourself enough to stay away from situations that could cause you temptation.

If your husband wants cookies, let him bake them himself. He sounds rather insensitive to me to eat
that kind of junk around you. Maybe he doesn't
know what it does to you and needs to be
                              enlightened about that?

Don't hand other people a rope to hang yourself with.
