  • Question for those who weigh more often

So I know I shouldn't be a scale slave, but somewhere in my head this little nagging voice tells me to weigh more often than once a week. I actually weigh myself at least 3 times a week. It's like a disease with me or something. Anyway, my official weigh day is on Monday and that is the number I use to gauge my weight loss. I'd like to know if anyone does like I do and only uses the official weigh day or do you count the other weigh ins as official? I'm asking because during the past week week I'm now showing a loss of 5 pounds and I don't lose 5 pounds a week here. Would it be wrong of me to count my in-between weighs?

I do use fitday, mostly to see the weight report. I think it's interesting to see how we go up and down over the months and it helps to motivate me to make it go down further.

I use the day I say is my official weigh in day (usually Tuesdays), but I weigh everyday to check.I usually loose about 2-3lbs a week but it tends to level off on weigh in day, usually only works out to 1lb loss(somehow I gain the other weight thru-out the week)

Saturday is my official weigh day, and that's the number you see on my siggy -- but I hop on the scale Wednedays (and sometimes Mondays) just to see what's going on. Based on the every-other-day, I'm bouncing around a lot. Based on once a week, it's slow and extremely steady. Now that I think about it, once a week is a lot less stressful -- but I'm just so curious!

Re: Question for those who weigh more often

I have reduced my amount of weigh ins to 3 times per day...I have fought to wean myself off to this level...when I first started it was about once per hour...after every meal, drink etc.

I'm going to try to reduce it to twice a day and then hopefully to once a day...

              Whew!

Nice to remember how badly I needed to lose weight in those early days..

Re: Question for those who weigh more often

Honestly, I weigh myself just about everyday. Well, everyday that I do something different.

For example, this past weekend, I had 1 salad. Oh my gosh, it was a good salad too. But, I wasn't at my apt, so I didn't have my foods there, and it had to be ordered when my friends ordered pizza. (One of them even tried to convince me that one or two slices wouldn't be bad, and my other friend was so proud of my progress, that he told off the other friend for trying to convince me to eat the pizza. Go team!)

But this entire weekend, I skipped meals, ate a lot of chicken and premade hamburger patties, and went through about 3 packs of cigarettes. I know I shouldn't smoke, as it cuts into my DDR and those things are poison, but it was a stressful weekend.

But, the good news is, I weighed myself this morning, and I dropped 2 pounds and currently sit at 205. My official weigh in day is tuesday, but I weigh in when I make a drastic change to the norm, to see what effect it has on me.

One time, aged cheddar made me gain 4 pounds overnight. Never again! (Well, maybe later)

Re: Question for those who weigh more often

I weigh daily. Mondays are the day that count though. (and interestingly enough are RARELY my lowest weight in a 7 day period). I weigh daily because I need that affirmation in my life. I dont get upset when it jumps up a pound. I just need to see that smaller number. My weight tends to drop a few pounds at a time, bounces back up and then settles out at that lower number.

And Im with Betty, count those 5 pounds!

Re: Question for those who weigh more often

If I'm honest I still do obsess about my weight...its getting better slowly though...

I try to use it to my advantage. i.e. if I go up by one pound that's me running and doing weights double on that day!

Sigh...Dr Atkins was right....weighing all the time really IS a form of slow torture

Oh and I'd like to say thank you to everyone who awarded me rep points...sorry I didn't answer anyone but I only just spotted the messages! Thanks all!

Hey..anyone else notice my spelling bee hasn't died for days???

Re: Question for those who weigh more often

I weigh every day and keep record of it, I don't even have an official weigh day, I got a nice little chart where you can see my weight from half januari 2005 till now, heeeeh.
I like to do it this way cause I can exactly see what happens to my body in connection to different foods etc.
I got my little notebook and every day starts with the date and the weight and I keep record of all I eat, I weigh every bite.
I don't obsess in weighing myself though, I don't really put that much to it, so it's not that I feel depressed when I weigh a bit more one day or so, cause I know I am doing this for life anyway, so what's the difference cause I KNOW I will reach goal no matter what, question is just when and hey, don't we all loooove surprises !!!!

Re: Question for those who weigh more often

Hi, my name is Joy and I am a scale addict. I weigh every morning. However, when I go up (and I do occasionally) I don't let it bother me. I don't change the way I eat, but I will do something like add more water.

The only thing that probably frustrates me is that whenever I have a big whoosh, the next day I'll go up 1-2 lbs. USUALLY (but not always) it levels itself out by my "official" weigh day on Tuesday. I only ever count Tuesday's weigh in. For me, it helps me judge a couple things: the amount of stress I placed on my muscles during a workout (I gain if I've done a really good workout--and this actually makes me a little happy...Sick, huh?) OR if I try a new food, I can tell right away if it's a problem for me. I've been really lucky so far that the foods I've added haven't caused cravings for me, but I have had some that have caused me to go up on the scale. This usually levels itself off. I've been VERY lucky so far that I've not had a true gain. Every Tuesday I'm always LESS than I was the previous Tuesday though I might have had gains in between (does that make sense?). I've also been VERY lucky since I've been in OWL that I've steadily been losing weight. That may change in the future and I'm aware of that.

The other thing I do is measure myself EVERY week on weigh day. What I've noticed is that one week I may have a really good scale loss and the next week comes the measurement loss. So, that helps me keep things in perspective too.

                        Hope this helps.

Thanks for responding everyone. I appreciate all your comments. I know the scale is bad, but like some others, I do like to compare my weight with what I've been eating and doing. So I'll stick to counting my Monday weight as the official number. I just hope this morning's weight is the same as tomorrow morning's.

I try to weigh only once per week but like you can obsess on it and weigh everyday. I went without a scale for years for that reason. haha I went to the Dr 3 times a month anyway during fertility treatments so didn't really need one just used theirs. Now I don't go the to Dr as often so I had to break down and buy my own scale. I tried not to weigh until I get to the end of induction next week but of course I have weighed two or three time. Not good because in the first few days of induction I tend to go up then start down after a few days.
