  • more energy needed , change in diet needed?

    Hey,

I started induction last Thursday and it all went fine. On saturday , I even survived a dinner with my old classmates , I had a huge steak with herbal butter and a side salad , it was absolutely divine!

But on Sunday I encountered an obstacle I had never expected. My boyfriend and I bought a house together and we moved in early February. As the weather is getting better , we have started to clean up the garden which is an absolute mess! Lots of debris from cement , building blocks , concrete etc you name it , we've got it.
But as I was working in the garden , digging up stones and tossing them in the container , I quickly ran out of energy , even started to feel sick. So I ate two sandwiches and 4 bananas! I have now really experienced a reason why you gain weight when eating carbs. On Atkins , I ate a meal and was actually satisfied untill next meal time , as soon as one carb had passed my lips , I felt as if I couldn't stop eating. Needless to say , I started Atkins again asap.
But how can I avoid those energy dips? We still have a lot of work scheduled over the next weeks and I don't want to fall off plan again.
Should I maybe eat something different or just a bit more or more often?

    Thanks for any recommendation

honey you ran out of energy because this is the spring time and you did a ton of work it looks like!!! pace yourself!!! eat well and know that your energy will stay more level as you get back into shape ...look at how much work you did of course you got tired ...especially after a winter of indoor stuff....

sometimes your body actually knows when you need a break and it is ok to take one and rest!!!

Some people find eating every 3 hours helps, even if it's just something small. And being spring with record breaking pollen counts even people who are not usually bothered by allergies get unusually tired after being outdoors for a bit. Also keep in mind, changing your WOE is a major impact on your body, it's learning to use a completely different energy source. Keep with it and I am sure you will have wonderful results!! You are doing great so far!!

Re: more energy needed , change in diet needed?

I had the same problem when I started. For me it was letting too much time pass between "meals". I eat a little when I get up, a small meal a few hours later, a little again after that, another small meal and a little after that. To make sure I'm putting the right things in my mouth throughout the day, I know what the meals are going to be ahead of time and my snacks are things like eggs and cheese and small salads, etc. I always have oil on my salads or throw the egg in so I'm not just eating carbs so my energy doesn't spike. I know this isn't always feasible, but by trying to do it this way everyday, it's become more of a habit. There are days when I don't eat enough and I do feel it, and when that happens, I sit down, drink a glass of water and slowly eat a small piece of cheese or an egg and then continue on. Make sure you aren't robbing yourself of nutrients also. Eat your 20 carbs of veggies, they're good for you. I had a huge problem getting above 10 carbs for a few days. I was also not active at all at the time. Now if I know I'm going to be doing something physical on a given day, I make sure my first meal is a good combo of fat, protein and carbs. It's a lot of thinking but health is difficult when we've spent years not doing it. It sounds like you're doing great though and you were caught off guard. Keep it up

Re-read the "carbohydrate withdrawal and addiction" paragraphs in chapter 11 of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition. In addition to the advice you've gotten, those paragraphs will explain why you are feeling low on energy.
