  • Peanut Butter-Help !

I have been at a slow down for a couple of weeks and I am almost sure it is because of my new found friend....peanut butter....I will get bored at night after the son is in bed, (my wife works nights) and have developed a fondness for peanut butter. Even though I figure it in to my daily carb count it really does seem to have a stall/slow down effect on weight loss. Is this possible? I know it would be easy enough to say stop eating it all together, but I swear sometimes it just calls my name.........has anyone else had a problem with the peanut butter jar and its' effects??

Hi - I have a NUT problem in general. I count carefully and it just seems to always throw me off track. Somewhere after induction I went into Peanut butter - but it is A LOT higher carb than you imagine and almost impossible to regulate your consumption.

Y'know what helped me? Try the Atkins Peanut Butter bars. Their OK for all phases and aren't bad. A little sweet for my tastes - but are still very "peanut buttery".

Another thing - sounds ridiculous - try eating, instead, a few pieces of American Cheese at night. By some land-o-lakes from your deli. Cuts off the late night appetite. If you're eating - I bet you also have more carb hidden in your daily diet and that's kicking off your appetite. Rethink what you've got!!

    Hope that helps!!

Peanut butter (natural unsweetened) is 100 cals and 3 or 4 carbs per tbsn, which is quite calorie dense, and can cause many issues (just like overdoing cheese and nuts in general). I have the same issue, I have issues with portion control so I have to be very strict on myself. If it is causing you weight loss problems, then I would cut out the PB for now..

Actually Thinker the bars aren't ok for all phases if you read the ingredients list (despite what Atkins Nutritionals will tell you), and can contain sugar alcohols which can cause stalling issues, and digestive problems.

This is an excellent idea, just watch your portions and dono't go over your cheese quota for the day. A higher fat snack such as cheese should cut the cravings.

Dylansdad I also noticed that your restart date is March 17th, are you at the nut rung yet? If you are not...Nuts and peanut butter are not allowed until you reach that rung of atkins.

Nuts and seeds are big stallers during OWL Phase, where it is limited to 1 ounce. And the rule of OWL is if any food causes blood sugar instabilities and/or weight loss problems, you drop that food from your menu. You might be able to re-introduce the food again during Pre-Maintenance Phase.

Go cold turkey on the Peanut butter if its becoming addictive and causing a problem with your loss.

You should try and not eat out of boredom. I am guilty of that on occasion.
I eat peanut butter (not everyday), but measure it out with a tablespoon. I spread a thin layer of it on a piece of celery that is already smeared with some cream cheese. I get that peanut butter taste and the satisfaction of a mouthful without all the extra carbs, and celery adds that crunch I want. I pretend it's some peanut butter cheese cake. But what can I say? I am good at self-delusion!!

hey dylans dad! glad to see you're still around. I'd say avoid the peanut butter too. If you want to, grab some nuts. But again be carefull with the amount. For some people it may help to portion them out into baggies ahead of time, grab one leave the rest. For me it doesn't work cause i know where the rest of the baggies are, lol.
I'm always for eating atkins legal foods, even if you're not in that particular rung yet, if it prevents you from going overboard and say eating a whole carton of ice cream and bag of chips.

I agree with JandL. The peanut butter isn't filling a hunger need, it's filling an emotional need. Find a legal, rung appropriate snack; drink lots of water (here's a good rule: drink 2 8 ounce glasses before putting anything in your mouth after dinner), and learn to evaluate when you're eating for hunger and when you're emotionally eating.

                  Re: Peanut Butter-Help !

Oh, peanut butter, my faithful friend! Why dost thou betray me with yearnings and inching up of the scale?

Dude! I have the exactly same problem. I was at the OWL rung for peanut butter, but could NOT control the spoon going into the jar. I think PB causes some bad bad cravings, at least for me! I had to throw out the jar just to avoid the temptations and to get back on the weight loss track!

                  Good luck!

I totally did that too haha. Super chunk is da bomb and it sat right beside my bed with a spoon that in hindsight should have been washed more often haha gross. I dont even buy it anymore infact I avoid it like brussel sprouts. "Put the spoon down and step away from the peanut butter sir"!
