  • This thread's for everyone!

I just want to say welcome to all of you!

I would love to know what your motivation was for deciding to to take advantage of this WOE/WOL!

    My Motivation:

A family with a history of health problems and struggles with being over weight. Not to mention--I love kids, and want to have some of my own one day, but to get pregnant at 310 would create a huge health risk that I was not willing to take! I did not want to wait around for the health problems to start taking over my life!

    What a great thread!

Well, as with you, health problems run in my family and I wanted to try to head it off in the pass before it struck me (since I keep gaining weight each year steadily).

February I was diagnosed with PCOS and the one thing the dr told me was to stay away from sugar and lose weight.

So, if I want to have a healthy, long life I know that I need to exercise more and create healthy eating habits.

A BIG PLUS is that it also makes you feel so much better emotionally, mentally and physically. Finally, there is control in your life rather than spinning out of control.

    That's it for me!

P.S. I'm not a newcomer, but wanted to join in this thread since it will turn out to be so interesting.

Well, my eating and my weight were out of control and I was beginning to see signs of Diabetes (which runs in my family). I could not fit into any of my clothes, and I was becomming a 'typical' fat american housewife who ate bon bons all day while watching soap operas!!! Who the **** wants to be that!??! I wanted to be an exciting, healthy wife and mother so I did a google search on the Atkins diet and found ADBB!! 24 pounds later, I am still here and still lovin' it!!! I feel better than I have in years, and I really can say it is because of ADBB. Thank you so much!

I would say everyone on this board is motivation for me! But overall the reason #1 why I chose to lose weight is to get back in the clothes I once could a year ago. When I am in my plus size mode I find myself hugely depressed! More so depressed because I can't find clothes that fit me like I once did. So I guess my motivation is every morning when I look in my closet at all the different clothes I could be wearing; however, I have to settle for the same old clothes week after week. (I may be exaggerating a bit but that is what it feels like.

This is great guys! It's funny how big can motivate us, but most of the time this small things that we notice cause us to get up and go!

Atleast we have all recognized the fact that something needed to be done, before it was too late

Well I was trying to get pregnant at 334!!!! I about died when I went to the fertility specialist and they weighed me at that weight. So I thought I haven't tried Atkins yet. I got the old book and read it and did an almost perfect induction. I lost 36 pounds down to 298 and guess what I got pregnant. LOL I tried to still maintain a low carb diet as much as you can during pregnancy anyway because I was borderline gestational diabetes and borderline high bloodpressure toward the end of my pregnancy. I managed to only gain 2 pounds with my pregnancy. But since then I have gained and lost and gained and lost my way back up to 314. I now have a two year old and I am now 43 years old. My mother has diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol and my father died of cancer only 4 years older than I am now. So I had all the family history and I want to live to see my daughter grow up so here I am back on induction. It is harder this time and I am not losing barely any at all but I'm sticking with it because it is do or die time for me. And I don't qualify for bypass or lap band surgery according to my insurance so I have to do it the old fashion way diet and exercise as hard as that is.

I have so many reasons on why I started that I could fill post after post. In short, I could no longer live with who I had become. It had to change for so many reasons -- health (sleep apnea, being fit), family (tired of being unable to go out with the kids), loyalty to former coworkers, and the challenge of keeping up with my brother. The funny thing is one that never occurred to me at the time, but has more recently in my thinking is that what God had planned for me couldn't be done when I was over 400. It was just a really bad time in my life, and I am so blessed that time is over and won't return.

                      Health, and health again!

My old ankle injuries caused me pain in the ankles, knee and back when I was so fat. I woke up tired and was lethargic all day. Steps were torture, as was doing the weekly shopping!

I hated the way I looked too, and wanted to be fit and healthy again. I was sick of the looks of people when we were out, especially if I was eating in a cafe.

I feel so good now I know I'll never go back to being a big fat pig (yes, JOhn, I used to stuff myself on potato chips and bready things all day too!)>

                        Re: This thread's for everyone!

My story is kind of interesting. About 3 1/2 years ago, my husband and I were watching a TV show featuring Al Roker and his stomach bypass surgery. We joked that we each needed to lose 100+ pounds, and since there was a doctor who did this surgery near our home, we thought we'd see if he would give us a two-for-one deal.

The next day, my husband had a doctor's appointment with a new doctor. He told my husband that he should lose weight, but didn't really give him any real suggestions. I also went to the doctor that day (Nov. 16, 2002) and he told me that I should lose weight. I told the doctor that if he could give me a plan that I could follow and not be hungry I'd do it. He suggested Atkins. We went on Atkins that night, and I have been cooking that way ever since.

My husband has lost well over 100 pounds, and his diabetes is really under control. I did really well for the first year, and lost about 70 pounds. Unfortunately, I developed a serious health condition that was totally unrelated to Atkins, and had to spend 6 months in a nursing home at the age of 50. They definitely DO NOT do Atkins in nursing homes! Even so, the doctor was amazed at how fast I recuperated, and he said that it probably was all the protein that I had eaten for the year before that made me heal as well as I did.

The last 2 years have been really hard for me to get back on the plan. Although my meals are Atkins friendly, I couldn't seem to get past the cravings in mid-afternoon. I'm on day 2 of induction again, and have been totally clean! I credit this board, and FitDay for making it easier for me to get back on track. Thanks a bunch for reading all of this.

                          Re: This thread's for everyone!

I had never cared about weight or body image and figured I was healthy enough. I ate well enough. No exercise or physical activity, but not really a big deal. Never owned a scale and stayed right around a size 12 for many years.

Had a miscarriage. No reason, just one of those things. But I learned that I WAS an emotional eater and ballooned up 30 lbs in about 3 months. When I couldn't keep up with my 2 year old, I said I'd better lose some of this weight and find some energy.

Pulled my goal weight out of my ear, it's as thin as I ever remember being as an adult. 12 lbs to go!!!
What is it, a RACE? It's coming off, right????

                            Hi Everyone,

My reasons have to do as much with vanity than anything else. I was thin my whole life, what my husband called "hafta run around in the shower to get wet" thin. When I was 39, my oldest daugter gave birth to twins. I was as proud as I could be and thought that life was finally looking up for me. Well, the oldest passed away at 2 months and the other 6 weeks later. The doctors said it was SIDS and there is nothing we could have done to prevent it.
I aways thought that I could handle stress well, but this time I started to eat...and eat. I got to almost 200 lbs and decided that is where the line was drawn.
Since that time, I have been on every diet you can imagine, even made a few up but the weight woudn't stay off. Finally, I tried Atkins and it was so much easier to do and the weight came off fairly easily. Then I went off of it, thinking the weight would stay off. Wrong.
So, here I am again a lot older and hopefully a little wiser.
