    Ugh -

I just spent the last several days in D.C. for work. While I had no "pig out" moments - it was a dietary nightmare!! I could "feel" the hidden carb climbing into my system. I haven't weighed in yet - but it won't be pretty. So much progress I made before I left; So much for that!!

I ordered a steak - yet it came w/a sauce not on the menu. I had plain chicken on undressed salad - yet I came to find out it had some marinate baked in. Plus - as usual - there was a glass of wine w/dinner. I eventually came to load up at breakfast. This helped. A huge cheese omellette or my fav - scrambled eggs and salmon.

it was a tough few days!!

Hey atleast you didnt totally freak out like I would have. It says something that you didnt totally "pig out". To me it means that in your heart you believe in this WOL and in yourself. Hopefully the outcome is that you are super determined to never be in that spot ever again and take any precautions on business trips. Send that food back if it isnt how you like it. Order all your food plain and dry and put what you want on it yourself. Glad you made it home in one piece

thanks! I wish I could be so positive about it. One reason I'm so committed to a Controlled Carb Lifestyle is that I reverse very quickly. Unless I watch it - I put on some pounds very quickly.

I appreciate your comments because one part of it is dead one - I'm ready to be scrupulous!!

Restaurants can be horrible for those of us who follow this WOL. One of my favorite things to do is to order a shrimp cocktail or two. Skip the sauce, and use the shrimp on top of a salad. Restaurant meat is often injected with stuff to make it taste better, but it doesn't help us any! You did great, though, and have the right attitude. Keep up the good work!

          2. Use bike more (3x per week would be nice).
          3. Continue with videos.
          4. Go to the YMCA for water classes.

Sadly, I don't do shell fish - or I'd think that was great!!

I have a parallel suggestion for breakfast. Marriots are the most Atkins friendly hotel chains, IMHO. They usually have an omelet chef. However, once you're sick of them - try ordering the bagel, lox, cream cheese, capers thing w/o the bagel. Then get a side of scrambled eggs! I think you can get this at lunch time too. Lots of different flavors - almost zero carbs!

I've never been one to send things back at a restaurant because I'm too shy, but I'm going to have to learn for this WOL . I just don't like to cause a fuss or be a burden, but I can learn from my mother-in-law and get what I need not what they want to give me I hope!

you know we do the best we can but we also have to live in the real world ..and sometimes this crapp happens no matter how hard we try...so yeah you do have the right attitude and you did not go nuts ..just keep moving forward and enjoying what you eat ..I order ala carte when I go out ..it helps cut down on the chances of getting something I don't want...

That's my downfall! I did a business trip to Birmingham about a month ago and the "low-carb" salmon with some kind of sauce I just knew was NOT that low carb. Then two days after that, I musta craved carbs and fell off the wagon. Thing is, the scale never moved after the 2 day trip! I had the "sandwich fixin's) without the bread (wrapped the meat in lettuce) and ate Macadamias for lunch cuz my boss who I traveled with didn't want to go to a restaurant and breakfast was "continental" (translate -- high carb junk).

You did great, just be aware that the hidden carbs could cause carb cravings -- don't give in, this will pass. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! A lot of your words are VERY true. The problem wasnt' so much the trip as the carb cravings afterward. I've been on "thin ice" the last few days. It all led to a fabulous, spectacular carb binge later. Well - back in the saddle again now!!

The restaurants in DC are very accomodating to various dietary needs. Whenever I eat downtown, I ask alot of questions and I order sauces on the side. (Don't worry their used to it, afterall they have to put up with all those bureaucrats and politicians oozing rivers of entitlement and self-importance)

Marriot Hotels is very accomodating to low carbers. I was at a work-related conference in Baltimore a couple of months ago and stayed at the Inner Harbor Marriot. They had an Atkins menu, however, I either ate the food I brought along or I bought food in the Little Italy neighborhood.

I agree about Marriots - they're supply of omelets & lox are all very atkins friendly.
