  • Murphy's Law....

Hi all. Ever have one of those Murphy's Law weekends? My husband was away at the Nascar Race in Richmond over the weekend with his friends, SO I got to do all the running for 3 kids over the weekend with activities galore. My husband and my best friend know I'm doing Atkins, but that's it.(All the family knows I've done Atkins before after the other two kids and lost the weight, I'm just trying to see if they notice this time...otherwise if I say something to them now as I'm getting started, it's like every five minutes from someone is 'how much have you lost?" or "have you lost anything yet" or "should you really be eating that".)

My family on my side is tall and thin except me at 5'5" tall and you see my stats below. My husband's family is all STICK THIN (2 sister in laws are around 105 lbs and the other is about 120 lbs.). AND, they all eat like crazy. SO, then there's me. Well, the hubby's family was trying to be nice. SO, they knew I was running like nuts this weekend with baseball pics for my son, two baseball games for my son, a b-day party for my daughter's friend, a b-day party for my son's friend, and my grandma's b-day party. Two sister in laws very nicely decided to make a casserole and dessert for me (now mind you in the 15 years I've been with hubby, they've rarely done this-either one!), one made Hobo pie, my FAVORITE quickie meal (hamburger, potatoes, cheese, rice, etc. all globbed together in a pie dish and baked to a wonderful GLORY) and one made dump cake (cherries, pineapples, cake mix, cool whip, sugar, brown sugar). They both said they were already making it for their families, so they just stuck one in for me. Now, I do this kind of stuff for them all the time, but rarely do they do it in return because they eat out all the time. So, this weekend, here I sit in a house with 3 kids and a husband that is away with Hobo Pie and Dump Cake. I went to the baseball game and just got a hotdog-no bun for me. And I had a nice evening with the kids on Saturday. Then Sunday, at the 1st b-day party, I ate nothing since it was pizza. At the 2nd b-day party, it was grilled chicken which I was getting ready to eat and decided to ask if I could see the marinade bottle (21 g of carbs per SERVING! OUCH), SO, I didn't eat that either. Before the 3rd b-day party, I went home and threw 2 hamburgs on the grill and chowed down with a salad. Then, at the 3rd bday party, it was pizza again.

SO, talk about a weekend of temptation! My husband came home late last night and was very pleased to have a WHOLE UNTOUCHED HOBO PIE and DUMP CAKE all to himself. Which, btw, he's taking leftovers for lunch today.

IN SUMMARY, I DIDN'T CHEAT ALL WEEKEND EVEN THOUGH I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY WANTED TO. It's funny, the further I go, the stronger my willpower seems to get. YEAH!

Just gotta love the temptations! Anyway, thanks for letting me vent about this crazy weekend. FYI, I lost 1 more lb!!!!!

Oh, you prolly lost more than that! With that kind of willpower and momentum, you are due for a whoosh!! Congrats on the first pound lost!

Can you sprinkle a little of your will power on me? Mine's starting to fade for some reason.

Thank you, thank you. Well, so far it's 11 lbs. down and a gazillion to go. I had hoped to lose more this weekend BUT, that's what the scale said so I'll go with it. I'd have been ticked if I passed up those treats and gained. SO, thank gosh that didn't happen.

I admit, I opened the foil on the Hobo Pie and just stood and looked at it for like 2 minutes, thinking, just one spoonful wouldn't be bad. BUT, I know that one spoonful would have led to a whole plate. If I open that door to cheating, I just seem to keep sliding. I've been cheat free for a while now and just didn't think it was worth it. The kids each had a small plate of dump cake and I wanted SO badly to lick the forks before I put them in the sink, you know how you do that as a mom, and I just rinsed them off before I could even have another thought. I found that I am a 'clean plate-aholic' . I was never allowed to leave the table without having my plate cleaned off and I try not to do that to the kids. I let them eat until they're full and that's it. HOWEVER, I would normally polish off their leftovers. I haven't done that for over a month and it's made a difference. AND, the doggies we have in the house are happier too!
