I am having a terrible time losing weight on atkins...in fact, I haven't. I was wondering if there are doctors out there who specialize in the atkins diet and how i would find one?

Re: atkins doctor?
Try posting some menus that you have been eating, there are a lot of knowledgable people here who can help you out.
None of us are doctors, but we are good at advice.

It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!
I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

Re: atkins doctor?
You can try the Carbohydrate Awareness Council to see if they know of anyone in your area. And of course, you can go to New York City: several of Dr. Atkins' former Atkins Center doctors (Fred Pescatore, Keith Berkowitz) are there.
However, have you had your current doctor run tests on you. Specificially ruling out the medical conditions that can contribute to a high metabolic resistance Dr. Atkins mentioned in the book?
Also, have you posted your menues for review by the mods in the Review My Menu forum? Sometimes these menues need fine tuning....~Megs~

Re: atkins doctor?
Thanks for the support. I was on induction for 3 weeks (without cheating) and did not lose any weight...so I decided to try the fat fast and after 4 complete days...have not lost any weight. I'm not cheating...this just doesn't seem to be working. I have no idea why i haven't lost weight or inches. I workout hard every day (but i have always done this so i am not gaining muscle). ughhh.

Re: atkins doctor?
I can see why that would be frustrating!!! Are you doing the fat fast in the portion-sizes that Dr. A recommends? The only thing I can think is if you are eating more calories or something?
Or perhaps you need *more* calories than you are eating. Can you type up exactly what you've eaten!
I am sure that is terribly frustrating though! I know of at least one person on here who lost nothing for 6 weeks of induction and then started losing....

Before you began the Fat Fast, did you rule out the medical causes of metabolic resistance like Dr. Atkins recommended?Originally posted by faith16Thanks for the support. Also, a former ADBB administrator lost 0 pounds and inches during her Induction. She moved to OWL and lost the majority of her weight. It took her about 6 months to get to goal.~Megs~

Re: atkins doctor?
Yes...during the Fat Fast i have been eating:
1ounce Macadamia nuts
8 ounces Cream Cheese --- it's been hard to eat the last 2 ounces of cream cheese cause i am so full - so sometimes it's more like a total of 900 calories.
I did all the pre-bloodwork so that eliminates everything except the yeast problem. I don't have any of the symptoms of yeast....except i didn't do so well on the spit test. aghhhh i just don't know what to do!

So you aren't taking any of the medications that Dr. Atkins mentioned either?~Megs~

Re: atkins doctor?
There are doctors who specialize in Metabolism. My endocrinologist and I are working together because I have put back on 30 lbs in a year and a half while doing atkins. Check out endocrinologists. She is wonderful, she also found out that my Osteopenia is from a sever vitamin D deficiency not calcium. I can stop taking my fosamax, I am only 41 with bone loss.......Dawn
