When you are figuring out how many carbs are in a sugar free candy, do you subtract the sugar alcohol from the carbs?

    Re: sugar alcohol

Only if you know for a fact that they are not being absorbed by your body!! I dont know how you would be able to be certain about that..

Which to me means - no! I would count every one of those SA carbs if I was to decide to use the sugarfree sweets and other processed foods.

And be aware that even the Atkins website used to have a page where they responded to the question 'will the bars/shakes stall my weightloss' by saying 'if you find they stall your weightloss then cut them out'!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

Sugar alchohols are a HUGE staller, so be ware! You would be better off making a 'legal' treat if you have to have one, but that is just my opinion!
What would we do without it?

I was just adding something to my fitday and realized I had a lot of Alcohol in what I ate today. Seems like I heard something about Alcohol is not good and I can't for the life of me remember why. So I did a search and found this thread. GRRRR..... Thats just great I had like 7% Alcohol I think. So I know I'm going to hit a major stall, which is the last thing I needed

            Re: sugar alcohol

pladd04 your alcohol was in your vanillia extract that isn't what she is asking about.

the mythical magical counting noncounting carbs do get metabolized in some way just not as quickly as regular sugars or the FDA would have allowed the low carb manufacturers to lable them fiber when they petioned in 2001 to do so. Carbs that are in no way metabolized by humans can be labled fiber and go in your mouth and come out the outher end unused.

So knowing that those grams of SA will be effecting you in some manner it is up to you if you want to subtreact it or not. remember too when Dr Atkins creasted his plan there were no SA foods not low carb stuff even from Atkins other then a few shakes and 2 flavors of bars which used a very different forumula but didn't taste as good as other company bars. in 2002 most of the Atkins.com foods were introduced with the explosing of SA sweetened stuff and newly formulated bars shakes and even candy and cake. when Dr Atkins made the plan id you wanted candy you had to make your own concotion with legal foods and count it all. Cake cost your carbs so you kept the servings small and the cals small. A betty crocker 24 net carb slice of cake cost you about 160 cals now with the use of the mythical magical counting noncounting Atkins.com had a whole 3000+ cal cake for just 24 net carbs removing all the stuff they say has minimal blood sugar impact. As you can see those mythical magical carbs can be very deceiving if you rely on them for picking your foods.

In 2003 the European Common Union and the Canadian equilalent of the FDA forced manufactures to incress theie counts for the actual carbohydrate value and calorie value for SAs as they were too low for actual tested values.

do yourself and your losing a favor and subtract only fiber from your counts.
