The office just got it’s monthly magazine hoard in the mail. On the cover of "Prevention" magazine is "Eat More Weigh Less Meals". Woman’s Day screams "Eat-Whatever-You-Want-Diet".
First the Prevention magazine headline:
We all know that portion size does matter and a lot of us are fat due to a combination of the wrong foods, the wrong amount of foods, and lack of exercise. So do weight loss diets that promise you "eating more" send the right message?
Is it a good eating habit to eat "a lot" of food because it is low calorie or low fat or low carb? Aren’t you just perpetuating the over-eating/gorging habit that helped make you fat? And what happens when you are confronted with regular food? Will you eat a smaller amount because it is higher cal/fat or carb or will you have the tendency to eat the same amount because your stomach is used to have a certain amount of food in it to feel satisfied?
Secondly the Woman’s Day headline.
Eat-Whatever-You-Want-Diet.
Okay…..let’s get real. Eating whatever I wanted made me gain this weight. So why would I ever want to do that?????
Yeah, sure some people are blessed with great metabolisms, good genetics, blah blah blah and can truly eat whatever they want…but I’ve proven I’m not one of those fortunate people.
Anyhow, what is this "Eat-Whatever-You-Want-Diet"?
Here’s the menu for Day 1
Breakfast
2 slices whole grain bread
1 tablespoon peanutbutter and 1 tablespoon light fruit preserves
8 oz.low fat milk
Lunch
2 cups tomato soup
spinach avocado salad: 2 cups spinach, 5 cherry tomatoes, ¼ avocado sliced,2 tablespoons salad dressing made with canola or olive oil
4 whole wheat crackers
Snack
8 oz low fat fruit yogurt
Dinner
Chicken and vegetable quesadilla: 1 whole wheat tortilla, 2 oz reduced fat heese, 2 oz boneless skinless chicken breast, ½ cup steammed vegetables of your choice, 1 tablespoon green onion, 1 tablespoon salsa.
I hate to tell them, but that ain’t my idea of "whatever-I-want"!!!
